Yeah, hi everyone.

Forgive me if im not very friendly at the moment. Its 2am. My head hurts and my eyes are bleeding. I tried looking for solutions for my problem on the forum, but couldnt find anything.

Ive got this brand new, used Sony NW-A3000 with the corroded software and monkey on its back. I'd love to be able to USE the blasted thing, but it seems that the Sony guys who built it and its software are determined I dont. Heres the situation; (current problem after stars)

- Bought player, found out CONNECT has neurological disorders, the hard way.

- Scoured the internet for a day, decided to try SS CP v4.0

- it mangled my computer until i found that i had to do a bunch of tricks and twists before i install it (via the FAQ from this forum)

- Reinstall SS CP v4.0

- Gracenote did something funny. Im not sure what. Its all a blur. Seems to be working fine now. Firewall?

- Update Gracenote.

- Finally get time to sit down and upload some music.

- Import music into MyLibrary. Go to gym.

***********************************

1- Come home to find my music scattered across the universe. I never realized there were so many ways to classify the same three songs. My albums are completely fragmented, cast off somewhere into a vast list of songs im sure i have never heard of (judging by their tags) under MyLibrary, never to be seen again.

2- Ran the "database management" deal in SonicStage. Virtually NOTHING is corrected. My albums are still scattered to the wind.

3- Picked up a few ID3 tag editors and edited my ENTIRE Mp3 archive.

4- Refresh MyLibrary. Every song is still where it was before. Ie. Nowehere its supposed to be.

5- Scream.

6- RE-EDIT Mp3 ID3 Tags, this time being careful to edit ID3v2.x as well. Nothing changes, again.

7- Lose all will to live.

So, basically thats a run down of my day. Ive had this thing for three days and havent been able to use it yet.

I would like to know how i can get MyLibrary to recognize my Mp3's the way I want them to. (doesnt seem like thats too much to ask, considering I bought the bloody thing).

To remedy this situation, can I;

A) Remove the current association links between MyLibrary and the files themselves

B) Specify HOW i want the files to be listed (eg, File name/ID3v1/ID3v2 )

c) Offer the player and all of its software to the Gomi Gods?

D) something awesome and total i have never thought of.

Thanks for any and all help you guys and gals can offer.

Ok,

getting ready to start THROWING things now....

Today i uninstalled SonicStage 4.0 and then reinstalled it (following the steps given in the FAQ on this site). Thinking all the time that reinstalling it will clear my library and hopefully allow me to have a logical Album listing when i reinstall SS. Without specifying an area on mh HD to scan, THE LIBRARY WAS EXACTLY THE SAME when i started up the newly installed SonicStage. WTF?!

Can anyone help me?

Your guess is as good as mine in trying to determine what happened and also why.

 If I were in your shoes, TAKE EVERYTHING OFF AND START AGAIN.

 Quite honestly, you may never figure out what happened and you'll go crazy thinking about it. Cut your losses and think nothing more.

 This time, be very systematic about what you do! I cannot stress this enough.

Install whatever version you want, I suggest going with JAP version 3.4. It does not have CONNECT and also with the JAP version you do not get "reinialization" messages as one does with the US/EU ones.

:excl: Just a note: 3.4 database is different from 4.0, so assume that when you upgrade on any version and your DAP / SS crashes (because it will!), it is unlikely you cannot save it if you revert to a previous version. Stay with what ever version you have. I use 3.4 and dare not upgrade again.

:D

If I can suggest, the less you rely on SS/CONNECT the better.

For example,

1) I rip all my CDS to my computer first

2) then I ID3v1 & v2 edit all tracks

3) then upload into SS

4) then to my DAP

5) After which, I delete the library. I literally have zero, nada, zilch tracks in SS.

It is always best to build a DVD archive library of all your tagged tracks. That way should something happen again, you can load up all tracks quick and easy. I have about (12) DVDs all organized with MP3s ready to load at will. When I got my 40gb Vaio Pocket, twice I had problems and decided to reformat and start anew. I made sure when/if, it happens ever again it would only take no more than 30 mins to upload anew ! B)

Hope you find my advice informative and good luck Oral Douglas.

PS - If your crazy like I was, you can click the link in my sig for possible help to save your DAP.....I'd bet against you in a heartbeat though :)

I am in the process of re-importing my entire library because I have moved all my music files. I suggest that you do what I do: don't do it all at once. Import chunks at a time and see how that goes. Make sure all the ID3 tags are in order, especially the album name as this will group songs together. If it doesn't work then get yourself a program to make M3U lists and import them instead of the files themselves. The problem with importing M3Us into Sonicstage is that you can only do it one at a time, not all at once, but it seems to get the music into the library and working, so...

Good luck
