Question

Hi Folks,

My wife may have to stay in hospital for a few weeks prior to the arrival of our next baby, i want to give her my NS706 to use but the trouble is, i currently charge the player from the pc at home, she wont have access to a pc at the hospital for charging, so is there an adapter i can get for the ns706, so it will connect to a mains power lead?

Cheers,

Mick

If you can get hold of the mains adaptor that comes with the NW-A3000/A1000/A1200/A608 that should work fine. It comes in 3 parts, the lead that plugs in to your wall socket, the adaptor and then uses your existing usb cable. Try ebay, I have seen them on there many a time. You could allways be cheeky and ask a nurse if she wouldn't mind pluging it in to a hospital computer. :D

Hi Stuge

Just to make sure, do you think it's ok to use the NW-A1000 supplied charger with NW-S7xxx range?

Yes ,One can use that charger .Even I Also use charger that came with A1000 to charge A703F . :)

I used the charger that came with my A1200, the AC-S508U on my NW-S706F yesterday. After leaving it on charge for approx. 30 minutes, I found that the S706 had become extremely hot. It's working fine but I am worried it may have damaged the battery. Now the charger supplied with the NW-A608 is the AC-U50A not the AC-S508U. The difference being the output on the A608's charger is DC5V 500mA, and the charger supplied with the A1200 has an output of DC5V 800mA. So when I charged the S706 using the A1200 charger I had 300mA more going through it than I should have done. The charger that came with the A608 is the same one recommended for the NW-S7XX range. If anyone technically minded reads this please advise as I don't think this combination of player and charger should be used. I hope this post makes sense lol. :)

The milliamp rating on a charger is the maximum current it can safely SUPPLY. How much current it actually sends out is dependent on the DEVICE. Thus, a device that draws 200mA when charging will draw 200mA regardelss if it is hooked up to a charger rated for 500mA or 1000mA. But you would not want to charge it with a charger rated for only 150mA.

So, whatever may have happened to your S706 is not related to the amp rating of the charger.

Are both chargers rated for 120V (or whatever your local electricity is)?

I wonder if the heat is related to the 3min charge/3hr play feature, which really must charge the battery aggressively.

Thanks grenert. Probably just me being paranoid, just wanted to make sure.

Yes apart from the difference in mA both are exactly the same.
