Question

I realise that similar posts have appeared here and in the software forum, but part of what I need help with I have not seen elsewhere, so please bear with me...

I have an A3000, about 3/4 full, working fine.

PC crashed, lost everything on it including all My Library tracks.

I downloaded and installed SS4.2 (- I have never got anywhere with Connect)

When I connected my A3000 it asked whether I wished to update intelligent features on the device (or something like that) - I opted for yes.

I subsequently found that the organisation of everything on my player has been completely messed up. Almost everything is grouped together under 'etc.', whether I search by artist, album or whatever. This makes it extremely frustrating trying to find anything to play.

I thought it might have separated files according to type as I have a mixture of ATRAC and MP3, but there are both present in both parts of the database, the alphabetized and etc. sections

I contacted SONY customer services and explained all this to them, they suggested resetting the device. I did this, no improvement. They then said they could fix it for me if I returned the unit to them, but as it is out of warranty it would cost me £71 + VAT!!:o

I said I thought this was a little harsh as the problem was caused by their own software. They then offered to get their 'transfer team' to get in touch with me to see if they can resolve the problem. (I am still waiting for this to happen - it is still within the promised 24 hours)

Questions:

Is there anyone out who has this problem and has managed to resolve or improve it in any way?

If I copy everything off the device, reformat it and then copy everything back (i.e. not importing via SS, just copying and pasting) onto it will it recognise my tracks?

Any other suggestions gratefully received :)
