Sonic 4.3 Omgjbox.exe Error

I will apologize in advance if this is already posted, but I am on a time crunch and frustrated. I own a NW-E005F, which came with SonicStage 4.0. After getting the Omgjbox.exe error, I upgraded tp Version 4.3. Unfortunately I get the same error. I can open SonicStage, play songs, etc., but when transferring, I get the error as soon as the transfer is complete. I then have to re-start SonicStage and then plug the player back in. This happens evry time I do a transfer and it is very frustrating when you have multiple songs to transfer over. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

I have this exact same problem since updating to SonicStage 4.3 from 3.4. Sonicstage runs and will move songs to my device, but bombs at the end of the transfer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, tried running in safemode, installing in safe mode, but I haven't had time to try editing the registry yet as suggested in the FAQ on Sonicstage. Never had any trouble with SS until now. It's odd that Sony hasn't been able to make it less error prone by now.

OK, tried the FAqs with no luck. Uninstalled, deleted folders, cleared registry, checked for Spyware (none) and updated operating system. Proceeded to re-install Sonicstage and got the stupid error as soon as I transferred a song. This is so incredibly stupid. Why would a company like Sony put out software that does this. There has to be a fix or patch somewhere.

I tried again with no luck.

1. Uninstalled Sonicstage

2. Deleted Folders

3. Edited Registry

4. Windows XP up to date

5. Checked for Spyware and Viruses

6. Disabled Firewall

7. Re-installed SS 4.3

Same result. Crash as soon as transfer is complete. Interestingly, the installer terminated on me 3 times before I finally got it to finish installing.

Anysuggestions out there as this is very frustrating.

Sorry to hear that the registry thing didn't fix this. I'm wondering if it's worse the hassle for me to try it. When I went to install 4.3 I too encountered the hangups you experienced. I tried installing 4.1 from a CD -- it installed with no errors but bombs in exactly the same way. Sony gave me a very generic reply about removing conflicting software when I e-mailed the problem to them. Safe mode doesn't solve the problem however, so it's hard to know what the conflicting software might be. SS bombs whether I'm running anything else or not.

Anyone else have any brilliant ideas? 4.3 runs fine on my work laptop but I need it to work on my main home machine.

I just tried transferring again. Same behavior. SS bombs after transfer and if restarted bombs as soon as I try and read the directory on the device (an HD5). I keep sending the error report to Microsoft. The error states: The instruction at "0x7c168f1d" referenced memory at "0x0000001c". The memory could not be "read".

Hi, pals, I've erver encountered the similar problem every time I inserted the connector of my NW-S705F into my PC's USB port and the SonicStage began to read the device info then the Omgjbox Error occured to the SonicStage 4.3. I fixed the problem just through modifying the SetupSS.ini file for no OpenMG Secure Module LimitedPatch installing. So far the SonicStage 4.3 runs well. As the OpenMG Secure Module LimitedPatch has been packaged into the official installation software, there's no chance to avoid installing it if you install the SonicStage 4.3 under the conduct of the official recommended instruction. How to install the SonicStage4.3 without installling the OpenMG Secure Module LimitedPatch? I'm gonna post my solution here. As the SonicStage 4.3 can be upgraded from the official internet site of sony service or they are supplied with your DAP's softeware CD, and the upgrade program for SonicStage is intelligent, I'd have to say the solution is only used for the users install the SonicStage 4.3 with the supplied DAP's software CD. If anybody else can obtain the entire installation software packages through the SonicStage upgrade program and rebuild your own setup scripts I'd like to say that's great, this is an effective way too, but it's so hard and complicated, if you really did it like this plz share your instruction or the entire obtained software, we would like to say thanks to you. Now let's begin my instruction. Hopes it can help you.

1.Locate the SetupSS.ini file for SonicStage4.3.

Copy all the SonicStage4.3 installation software from your DAP's supplied CD to your own PC's harddisk, let's assume the saved directory is named to "D:\SS4.3". The SetupSS.ini file is right to be located in the directory "D:\SS4.3" and it's along with the file SetupSS.exe.

2.Modify the SetupSS.ini.

Open the SetupSS.ini file with any of your favorite Text Editor, find all lines like this:

"Dx,Wmf,Wmf9,Mdac,Msc,SetupReg,OmgSetup**,OmgLP,SsSetup,SsAddon**,DrvPA,PDInfo**,VideoDL,WmLaunch**", the double-asterisk(**) indicate the region you live in, i.e. JP, US, CA etc. or blank space. Delete the text "OmgLP," of this line. plz notice do not forget the last comma(,). Repeat this deleting action until all the likewise lines are modified.

3.Uninstall the previous version of the SonincStage if it has been installed.

You should uninstall the sonicstage with the normal windows controlpanel uninstall program.

4.Uninstall the previous version of OpenMG Secure Model if if has been installed.

Well, same as the uninstallation of SonicStage you should uninstall the OpenMG Secure Model with the normal windows controlpanel uninstall program too.

5.Restart your computer.

6.Delete the remain files belonging to the previous version of SonicStage and OpenMG Secure Module.

Delete all the remain files manually. Do not forget the files under the directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared" especially.

7.Reinstall the SonicStage4.3.

Locate to the directory "D:\SS4.3", Just run the file SetupSS.exe, and be under the conduct of it. After it has been finished restart your computer.

Okay, the instruction is finished. I hopes it's usefull to you.

Dude! You are freaking awesome!!! So far, so good, it worked like a charm. The only thing was that I do not have a SS4.3 disc. All I have is SS4.0. Not complaining here though. So, here is the million dollar question for you. If I update to 4.3 using the links, will I be back to square 1? Or, should I get my hands on a 4.3 disc and then try it just the way you showed? Just curious anyway. Dude, you rock!!!

Well, I just tried Torpedo's suggestion and it does eliminate the omgbox error. Thanks! Unfortunately it also eliminated the rights information to my music from the Connect service and made Connect think I have a different computer. I still had room to register my "new" old computer with Connect though and can redownload my music to obtain the rights. I'll have to e-mail Connect to get them to remove my "old" computer from my account, since there is now no way to do that. Sony really needs to fix this kind of silliness. Does anyone have any idea why the Omg Limited Patch creates this problem on some computers?

If you want to install SonicStage 4.3 without the patch, what you'll need to do is open up your C:\Document and Settings\%username%\Local Applications\Temp directory. When you run the "SonicStageInstaller.exe" program you download from Sony, you'll see a bunch of files pop up in Temp. The Sonicdl.tmp directory is of most importance. When the installer downloads the programs from the internet, simple .ZIP files will be created in this directory.

The files are:

ss_english.zip - SonicStage 4.3

ss_add_english.zip - SonicStage Add-Ons

openmgsetup.zip - OpenMG driver

omglp.zip - OpenMG Limited Patch

setupreg.zip - Registry settings

My wife's PC has been having this problem for a while; which is maddening to her. I didn't get these crashes on my computer, but aside from running Windows XP SP2, our machines are completely different. Reinstalling didn't help, wiping out the registry keys and all directories, nothing. Following this thread, I uninstalled SonicStage, the OpenMG driver and the Patch. I rebooted, captured the files listed above, and installed just SS 4.3, SS Add-Ons, and OpenMG Setup. I did not install the patch or the Registry settings. (I did not delete the Sony key out of the registry this time around.)

This seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks for teching that out, torpedo.

I have this issue with my Japanese notebook and both my NW-E005F and NW-S706F. I'll try this out now; hopefully it'll work!

update: i noticed that when i uninstalled sonic stage 4.2, that it failed to uninstall the openmg module limited patch (as well as the openmg secure module), so i uninstalled both of them.

i then reinstalled sonicstage 4.2, and now i dont get this error.

INTERESTINGLY, checking the add/remove programs list in control panel no longer shows the limited patch... my English Windows XP SP 2 PC has it however...

If it helps anyone, the full 4.3 installer (US) is here:

http://sonicstage.connect.com/SS-US.zip

update; OK I followed WeekendWarrior's method, sounded promising but it only half works for me. No crash and I can transfer tracks, but my nw-a3000 says 'please connect compliant software' on startup and some database features like correct alphabetisation for names starting with 'The...' and the recent transfer playlists are missing. It can at least play music!

I wondered if I'd just corrupted my database somewhere along the way (had experimented with SWEx recently) so renamed my OMGAUDIO folder and tried with a new fresh one, no difference. Guess it's something to do with not having the 'limited patch' installed.

Ho hum, off to hunt a download for 4.2

got it, all working again and exactly as it was before I tried to upgrade. thanks sony for wasting a few hours of my life gah

The same tip is on this web page . They mention that I need an cd to do this tip. The link is in the top of the web page. You can then download the hole cd of SonicStage CP 4.3. Then you can change the SetupSS.ini file with an editor, and install it. But the cd you download is the US version of the install cd. Do some one know about the europe version of the cd, or how I could fix this?

I have been struggling with this issue since I bought my NW-E005F. Very frustrating. No help from either SONY or the retail outlet I bough it from. Software is not covered in warranty even though I shelled out $35 extra for an extended warranty.

I only have version 3.4 of the software but the adjustments to the ini file as suggested above worked for me first time !!!

Thank you very very much. :D

This fix should receive MAXIMUM distribution as there are a host of forums with many disappointed users out there.

As for SONY...all I can say is "Hopeless"...beware any SONY product if this is the level of service they provide.
