Sony Network Walkman NW-HD1 - HELP!

Rate this question

Survivor

Question

I have been given a Sony Network Walkman NW-HD1 20Gb player and cradle by someone who had got fed up with Sony's strange file formats and software and has replaced it with a SanDisk player.

Does anyone have any experience of the NW-HD1 or any software other than SonicStage for recording to it?

Is it possible to use it with MP3 - other than by converting from .MP3 to ATRAC format? Remember, this is one of the early NW-HD devices.

Many thanks, I really would appreciate any advice.

Welcome to AtracLife!

NW-HD1 only supports Atrac format only .You will have to convert files other than Atrac like Mp3 ,WMA etc

It can play Mp3 files only if its firmware is updated by Sony ,but I think they have stopped doing that now .

I've had my NW-HD1 for over two years now, and after learning how to use SonicStage properly (I kept wiping out the songs on the player when I first got it xD), I've never had any trouble with it.

If you don't like SonicStage, you can use VAIO Music Transfer instead (still requires SonicStage to be installed on your computer) which sort of allows drag and drop capability. I prefer SonicStage, though.

Thank you, I'm glad I found this forum.

Rats! Any idea how I might be be able to find out more about this? I would guess that it is a firmware upgrade?

Just import all your MP3's to Sonicstage then batch-convert all of them to ATRAC3plus before sending them over. The ATRAC codec is a great one. Allowing high sound quality at low bitrates, and is much less power demanding on batteries (part of the reason why sony has such great battery life).

The HD1 is a work of art and really a great DAP. Mp3 support is really useless, just batch convert it all to ATRAC3plus, then transfer them over to the HD1, easy as silk.

As said Sony has Stopped it now .If you are lucky you Sony might do the upgrade for you.For that you will have to ask Sony if they still do the firmware upgrade for HD1
