NW-A808/problem with ON HOLD display function

Since a couple of weeks I'm the proud owner of a Japanese NW-A808. This player is fantastic, great sound. Today something strange happened, the ON-HOLD display function found in Video Settings which is supposed to keep the screen blank when activated seems to be not working. With ON-HOLD display:NO, I still get the onscreen warning that HOLD is activated, before today it would however keep the screen blank(to save power).

I have been carefull in using the player, no drops etc and use the sony leather case.

Anybody got any suggestions what is going on?/How to solve it? Thanks in advance!

Hello Pander,

I have some questions.

Have you tested the players outside of the case?

Is the HOLD switch slide up?

Is there a message On hold ... Cancel HOLD function to deactivate or HOLD when you press any button?

You may have to press the reset button on the right side of the players.

When I have the HOLD button up, I should only get that message with ON HOLD DISPLAY to YES in video settings. I now also get the on screen warning with ON HOLD DISPLAY set to NO. Weird because before it would stay blank in that setting....

Just had another look in the manual, think I have a wrong idea of what ON_HOLD display in video settings actually does. Still don't have a clue what it does however!

Can anybody explain what the ON_HOLD display setting yes/no in VIDEO SETTINGS is supposed to do?

ON HOLD is an interesting name for the function.

With the ON HOLD Display function set to Yes and the HOLD slider is up, the screen stays on while a video files is being played. HOLD will be superimposed for a few seconds after the HOLD slider is placed in the up position.

With the ON HOLD Display function set to No and the HOLD slider is up, the screen stays off while a video files is being played. The screen will go blank and stay blank when the HOLD slider is placed in the up position.

When any key is press the video is displayed the message HOLD superimposed over it, no matter the setting of the ON HOLD Display. Then it will return to its original state as described above.

The ON HOLD Display function, in the VIDEO SETTINGS, allows the video to be displayed when any off NW-A800 series players are placed in the hold status.
