Handbrake settings for NW-A80x?

Question

My daughter got a NW-A806 for her birthday and she really enjoys watching movies/cartoons on it. Great to have when travelling etc. However, I do find the settings in the bundled conversion software too limited.

- I can only choose 768 or 384 kbps, I want something lower, maybe 320.

- I can only choose 30 or 15 fps, in Europe we use 25 fps, or I might want half of that.

- I want to use mono audio and perhaps lower sample rate/bit rate. Can't do that with Image Converter.

So the solution I was hoping for was Handbrake. A really neat, one step ripping/encoding process that I have successfully used for my Nokia phone. I tried with AVC Baseline 1.3 and 320x240 but the Sony device refuse to play the files I create. Does anyone know the settings to use (I use Handbrake CLI on Linux)?

Sad as it may seem the NW-A800 series only support the listed formats for video playback. Image converter is not required to convert the video files formats that can play on the NW-A800 series. PSPVideo9 is a good software that can transcode your video files to formats supported by the NW-A800 series.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yes, but according to the specification found in the user guide it should be compatible with the settings I am trying to use. H.264 Baseline level 1.2 and 1.3. Naturally I want to use 1.3 since 1.2 does not support as high framerate.

When using Image Converter to load the clips it correctly identifies the format and does not transcode, just transfers the files.

i also recommend imtoo psp video converter, though you will have to purchase the full version.

I'd rather not use a commercial application when there are free tools available that probably will do the job better. Handbrake does ripping and transcoding in one step and can be run from a Linux command line, i.e. it can easily be scripted and automated.

My vacation starts today so I will hopefully have some time to try various x264 settings and see if I can come up with anything that works.

The A800 series plays MP4 simple profile as well as AVC Baseline. I use the freeware converter Super to convert files to MP4 , 320x240 at 15fps or 25 fps which play fine on my NW A808. You can also set Image Converter to convert into MP4 instead of AVC Baseline of that helps, both play fine on the A800 series.
