juli_
I hope this is the right place to post this - I have been badgering Shure (US and here in the UK) for a definite release date for the SE420 and finally got an e-mail, see below. I was waiting for these to try with the NW-A808 - have UM2's coming but will probably want to try these ones too! If it has a warmer sound that the E500, it might be a good match for my 808, and anyone else who's finding the 808's detail a little 'harsh'. Julie, I actually have the SE420's coming into the country on Monday of this week, they will be distributed to all our major clients. Monday week, I would look to Amazon, The Mp3 Company, John Lewis or Dixons. They will have them then, Regards Melissa CohenCustomer Service and Personal Audio SpecialistShure Personal AudioSo if anyone's interested, I take it from the 9th July there'll be available at the above retailers - and if this is old news, sorry! juli_
http://www.amazon.com/Shure-SE420-K-Sound-...6691&sr=8-1Also is that your review on Amazon? if so I take it you weren't impressed? Oh, hahahaha, yes it was and no I wasn't impressed at all. I sold them on eBay. I worked out I've tried 8 different headphones with the 808 in my quest to get the best match for it, and I also pointed out in the Amazon review that iLounge had said there was virtually no difference between the 210s and 310s, but actually I can hear a difference now I have them both here. The 210 is very very good, some editorial reviews claim it has a nicer sound than the 310, and for some styles it's true. But as I got the 310s for free, I'm trying to convince myself they sound better than the 210s. They're definitely more detailed, but the 210s have that analoguey feel that makes the 808 sound a little more like the 706!! I'll probably keep the 310s and sell the 210s. All this hassle trying to find headphones was simply to get my 808 to sound like my (sold) 706. . . isn't that just sad??? I regularly used the E4Gs with the 706 but found they sounded quite different with the 808, too cold - hence the search began

I use these with my A806:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-CX300-Ear-Canal-Headphones/dp/B000E6G9RI/ref=pd_bbs_1/026-5650520-8567645?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1185282469&sr=8-1have you tried them? dura_
I use the Shure E4Cs with my A808 andfound the sound cold too, in the beginning, but I got completely used to it and enjoy it very much. The player sounds lean, granted, but on the other hand it has great detail and dynamic range. I advise experimenting with DSEE; switching it on tames the treble slightly, at the expense of some spark. I often listen without EQ, but if I use EQ these are my davorite settings with the E4s: +1,+1,0,-1,0 CB:0 (I do not like CB in this player, it does not add warmth just punch). The basslift gives some warmth, the midtrebledip removes some sharpness, enjoy!

I still have the set I bought from Amazon a while back. I did use them for a while and liked them a lot with rock, but only about 20% of my music is rock, and I found them too heavy for more delicate stuff like acoustic and classical etc. I got them for £14.99, a real bargain when they cost so much more elsewhere. I still like them with rock especially now I've grown more accustomed to the 808 EQ. Without EQ I found them quite overbearing but reducing the bass helped make them sound more balanced. The SE310s that I'm using at the moment don't suffer from that so I can listen for longer. I do prefer the E4Gs clarity though, but the 310s are a good compromise

With that money I could buy a couple of A808's They cost a bomb now since they went up from £80 to over £140 on Amazon! I bought them when they were at the lower price. I think a lot of people took advantage of that for the few weeks Amazon was selling them for £80!

Investing more will give you a poor return of investment, take it from an almost 50 yrs old I´ve.been.there.md.psychology.audiophile...and sorry for the mammy knows it better teneur
juli_
You give the impression of being on a quest, sparing no expenses, searching for the grail, audio nirvana... Yes, I've been on a quest! But I've either been able to sell, or return all the headphones I've tried. Plus the 310s I have now were a gift, so once I decide between those and the 210s, I'll sell the extra pair and my quest will finally be over. It's taken a few months, and it's been very very interesting to have the opportunity to try out different sets and see which ones make the music come alive for me. I don't regret it for a second, it's been frustrating at times, but also huge huge fun.
SP1_
Does the extension lead fit securely to the headphones on the SE210's?
