Okay, the hard drive on my nw-hd5 died 7/1. When I turned it on, the intro screen would appear, the hard drive would click loudly and then it would turn back off. So me being "inquisitive" I opened it up following the directions in a post somewhere on this site. The first time was okay, I opened it up, noticed that the plug connecting to the hard drive was not completely "in", pushed it in and reassembled the unit. It turned on and the same thing happened again. But at least it turned on. After searching the net for a possible replacement and finding nothing to my taste, the idea came to me, maybe I could replace the hard drive. A friend of mind had a 4g ipod that he doesn't use (ipod and hd5 supposedly use the same hard drive) so I figured I might buy that off of him and use it in the sony. Just to see if I could do it again, I dissasembled the unit again but when I reassembled it this time, the unit doesn't even turn on when I push the buttons or plug in the power cord or usb cord. Just plain dead. Anyone have any idea what I did wrong? Also, how much do you think sony would charge me to repair it. (It's out of warranty) Or would they even repair it? There is NOTHING on the market now that attracts my attention, everyone seems to have moved on to flash and the hard drive players out now are bulky compared to the HD5. I wished my ZVM sound on par with the HD5 but it just aint there. The hard drive seems like it would be very easy to replace. Just plug'n'play
