hi, i REALLY need to transfer my files back from my nw-a3000 onto my computer. is there any way you can do this?

most of my music was saved on my old computer (which very sadly got destroyed in an unfortunate accident with a cup of tea). now i have a new computer but i think my a3000 is on it's last legs, ive had it for a year and a half and its been dropped a few times etc so i dont think it will survive much longer....

SO.... i really want to save all my music back onto a computer so that i can have a back up (and put my music onto a new mp3 player) when this a3000 does finally give up!

i think they are saved to the player in atrac format. i tried just transferring them back with sonic stage but only a few tracks were transferred back...

a wikipedia link i followed ( which said "SWEx will transfer from the NW-A3000 (and possibly other models) to your computer without any setup or installation. It can run from the device. Free forum registration required to download." from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SonicStage#Alternatives ) took me to a download for a "SWEx" program and brought me to this forum. i downloaded it but haven't got a clue what i'm doing. how do i use it to transfer my files across??

i've searched and searched for answers but i can't even work my way out around this site very well.....

i'm not at all good with computers and i'm getting really fucking exhasperated!!!.... please help me!!!

hi, welcome to atraclife

ummm as far as i know u cant transfer existing music from sony's mp3 player to another computer unless all songs have been deleted. sry for being the bearer of bad news but this is some stupid rule made for copyright stuff. unless u use it as a storage harddrive (i.e. drag and drop music files from windows explorer), otherwise there's no way that u can transfer music onto another computer.

voidMP3FM (on the same wiki page) says "e.g. ability to transfer files back to your computer", is that the thing u are looking for? but i am not sure if it will support an A3000 =/

i have never heard of this SWEx program before, but after reading the page on wiki, i assume it works just like mp3 file manager, which means u can transfer music to the player without using sonicstage. even tho i dont think it allows u to transfer music back to computer but u can try it urself anyway, good luck

I found out the hard way, twice, that I couldn't transfer anything back from the player to the computer unless they were all still in the SonicStage library. I automatically assumed I could just swap back and forth when I wanted seeing as everything was already on the player!

I'd like to know if anyone else ever got round it

If your files were not copy protected you should be able to import them into Sonicstage by treating your player as a hard drive in Windows and importing a folder. If they were copy protected and you had registered the device to a Connect Account, you should be able to register the new computer to your Connect account and transfer the files via SonicStage. If they were copy protected and you never had a Connect account you may be out of luck.

There is hope.....buy the new Sony NAS-50HDE Gigajuke Hi-fi or the NAC-HD1E deck. These are HDD units which have huge space, either 80gb or 250gb. Simply hook up your player through the usb socket and it will transfer all of your files to the unit's hard disc. Then you can buy another Sony portable device and re-transfer all your files to the new player. Of course, you cannot back up to the computer in the usual way like through Sonicstage - this is Sony's way of protecting your music (some would say more like hijacking it, but anyway). Good luck.
