Why can't I transfer certain MP3 files to my Sony MP3 player via Connect?

Question

I recently bought this Sony MP3 player and for some odd reason, the Connect software won't let me transfer my music with unicode characters. It said those characters are unrecognizable or something like that and as a result, it won't transfer the music over. As a result more than 80% of my music cannot be transfer over to the MP3 player. This really pissed me off as during my 10 hour flight to Beijing, I listed to the same old 15 songs over and over again. Can anyone here tell me how to fix this without renaming each of the audio files? I thought Sony MP3 players support unicode?

The Sony MP3 players seem to support Unicode. No one has been able to test this, but it is assumed that this is the case. This is based on the fact that the Sony's DAP can display character sets from various different languages, such as Korean, Chinese, and Japanese.

Anyways, It is advised that you should be using SonicStage 4.2 or 4.3. In addition please use Microsoft AppLocale. There are instruction on how to install and use AppLocale on this site.

What character sets are your files using? What version and language is your computer using? Which Sony DAP had you recently purchased?

My computer is configured to display Chinese, Japanese, and Korean characters. I'm using Windows XP Professional SP2.

All you have to do is load applocale with the correct language and then SSCP 4.3 will load accept the files. For instance if you have Korean and Japanese, you would have to load SS using applocale for the Japanese and then separately for Korean.
