Question

Hi all, this may be a bit silly, but just wanted to know. I recently reserved (paid for) one of the docking stations for my NW A808 in my local Sony store. They're out of stock and so are pretty much most Sony centres (so they told me) and also on the website (Sony Style) it says available soon. Does anyone have any idea about what happens when an item has low stock how long it might take for Sony to get in gear and produce more?

I'm just worried that they wont produce anymore :( and I was really looking forwards to having one :(

Any ideas?

Cheers :)

I would cancel the order with Sony immediately. After all, they don't have it in stock so you should be refunded so you can buy it elsewhere. It's available at Amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-CPF-NW001-Cra...N/dp/B000K9FJCK for £129.99 (a saving of £50 on the Sony Style price) and http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronic...;searchsource=0 also for £129.99, both offer free delivery. It's a really good product, in fact I reviewed it at Amazon and Play.com because it was so good. I sold it and got the one with wi-fi which was on sale at Argos for £99.99, it's exactly the same as the previous model, just with extra features. You can save £50 and get it immediately. You'll love it! It's also comaptible with the A800 series

If you gave them your money, then they would have ordered one for you already. Did they give you a estimated date that they would be available? I would say that it would be between 1 to 3 weeks, but I really do not know. Look at this way it will be coming fresh from the factory.

Thanks Shinji. I'll hold tight :) and no they didnt give an estimation time

Wow, if you got it for £39.99 that's an amazing bargain. Argos was actually giving the wi-fi version away free with the A808 (when the 808 was at its full price of £200) during a 2-day sale or something. There were some reviews about the wi-fi being almost impossible to set up, but because the cradle had been 'free' it wasn't considered the end of the world. That was an amazing sale I missed, but at least I got the cradle for £99.99 just before Argos increased the price back to £199.00.

It doesn't come up in the search because Argos are listing it as a "Sony 2.1 Channel Cradle Audio System" rather than its more 'catchy' title of CPF-NW001. It's listed here http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/s....x=0&go.y=0

Thanks for the info. The deal has now ended. See, i foolishly bought a Creative Zen instead of the sony. Then a couple of months ago i went into the sony store and heard it on some decent head phones... WOW i was blown away! needless to say i sold the creative on amazon and bought the NWA808. Then recently the sony shop were doign the £39.99 deal. Iasked them if i coudl still have it at the price, even though i bought the player 2 monthsago, and they agreed!!! Except there's non ine blooy stock!!! so just got to wait.

Would have been great to get the wi-fi one for free!! does it work ok now?

I have no idea if the wi-fi part works as I gave up shortly after loading the software. One look at the instructions left me quite dizzy and I had to lie down for a while to recover :) Actually I have no plans to use the wi-fi, I'm just using it for the player. But one day in the future in a galaxy far far away, I may attempt to try it again. It has horrendous reviews regarding the set up so I didn't bother to go any further!

bet that must be frustrating for many people who bought it mainly for wif. so does the sound systems ound as good as all the reviews say it does? what about when you've put music onto the player at a low bit rate? does the sound distort?

I don't use low bitrates (mainly because I don't have a huge collection and space isn't an issue) so I don't know about distortion, everything is 256kbps and above. The sound is phenomenal, really amazing for something that is so small. Anyone who has heard it thought the music was coming from the speakers on the wall, as the sound is so big and encompassing. The only slight setback is finding a good position for it as the closer you are to the speaker system, the more the music 'closes' in on you - move further away and the sound spreads through the whole room. We're a bit short of shelf space here so at the moment it's a case of putting it where there's room to access it easily.

It's also easy enough to move and the other evening (when it was beautifully balmy weather) I simply moved it towards the patio doors and plugged it in there and the music was playing in the garden. So it's very adaptable which is useful. As for those poor people who bought it for the wi-fi. . . I feel sorry for them as there is not a single good review about this unit at Amazon due to the complications of setting it up - and the fact the internet radio drops out unless the unit is close to the router, but the other model without wi-fi has much better reviews because it's only been judged on the sound, not the software. What I really like is the ability to have all my music playing from the cradle. With playlists so easy to set up I can arrange an evening's worth of music without having to do a thing, and as I said, the sound is amazing through the speaker system. I am always surprised and delighted as soon as it starts up!

Wow!! Ithink my heart skipped a beat then! I really cant wait to get my hands on it :) It sounds fantastic. i was feeling a little upset about not being able to get the wi-fi one, but seems like i'm gonna be very pleased with the bog standard one. but i gues by sony standards, nothing is ever 'bog standard'

:D
