Question

Hey I was browsing the Sony Style Uk site when I came accross some interesting special offers. A808 and A806 are now £5 cheaper and come with a free wireless sony speaker and cradle set worth 200£. Anyone not too fussed about WMP11 support and likes ATRAC could steal themselves quite a deal here!! Links don't seem to work when I post them but here's a print screen of the 4gb offer, same as 8gb offer only that is 165£.

It's almost worth buying just to re-sell it on eBay! I already have it so can't make use of the offer, but remember when there were a million pink S706's going cheap on eBay after Woot sold tons of them really really cheap? People snapped them up just to sell them

the fact that they are blowing these things out doesn´t bode well for a firmware upgrade.

Although if you go to the official flash site for the new a81x series you get sent to some old pages for the a800 series like those for downloading videos from the net. This lack of separation between the products could suggest two things.:

1) sony are lazy

2) the products are being treated as the 'same' (perhaps this means a firmware upgrade isn't out of the question or am I clutching at straws?)

They are so similar that sony is forgetting about the 80x and just thinking about the 801x hoping ppl forget.

I think its more of one, seeing how they treated us HD5 users i dont think it bodes well for you

John Lewis are also offering the deal - http://www.johnlewis.com/Technology/Periph...86/Product.aspx

They've been out of stock for a while and there's nothing to say if/when they'll get new stock. With the release of the 'improved' 808 - would it make sense for John Lewis (or any other stores with this promotion) to order in new stock of the now antiquated 808?

I didn;t see the no stock thing....I guess it depends how badly sony want to unload any stock it has left over....although my guess is they have had the new model in the bag for a while so there won't be a huge amount of old 800s...

This special offer is available at all UK Sony Centre shops as well. What's more I ordered a NW-A806 from a Sony Centre about 2 weeks ago and took the free speakers first. However they called me recently and told me that the A806 has been discontinued and asked me if I'd like a refund. I was disappointed and asked the manager if they could source the A806 at another branch because I don't want to return free speakers that came with it. Now hearing that Sony is releasing a newer model this month, I'm wondering if Sony Centre could order the new model 816 instead of the A806 and take up this offer too.

The question is if the offer is applicable for the newer models as well.

Tony,

I would definately give it a shot! my guess is "officially" they won't as the deal is a ploy to get rid of the generally poorly received wi-fi speakers and the now defunct 800 series.

I called the Sony Centre this evening and asked them if I could exchange the ordered A806 for the newer 816 and the salesman said no problem but he wasn't too sure about if the promotion could be carried over to the newer models. He said will call back soon to confirm, fingers crossed.

Let you guys know the out come.

"Update"

Unfortunately Sony called me and said the promotion is only for the older A800 series and cannot be used for the newer models. What's funny is that the shop assistant that called me keep on referring my ordered A806 as iPod. How professional.
