problems downloading films / movies to NWA 806 & 808

Hi,

I need a real beginner's guide to downloading movies onto both of these devices - I bought them to keep myself & 2 kids occupied when we are emigrating to USA. However, after initial success downloading MPEG 4 High School Musical from Limewire, nothing else works. I've asked tech support from various places & only advice I got was Sony Walkman's are rubbish in this area and to send them all back!!!!

Now I think the music quality & quality of movie I managed to download is fab - as is build quality & ease of use for an 8 & 6 yr old. I've tried using Atrac - refuses to convert files - "file stream problems". Have bought software - roxio copy & convert ( recommended by PC World) just sits and does nothing of note ........... and still only have High School Musical!!!!!

PLEASE, PLEASE could someone help me:

1.What do I need to look for from a movie downloads site?

2.What formatt do I need to downoad?

3. What sites do I need to be looking at - so far I've only got Limewire?

4. What extra software do I need to make it work on the players?

I just feel SO STRESSED out by this as the players are a much better alternative on a 7 hr flight than a portable dvd player - but not if I can't get any movies onto them!!!!

Hi - welcome to the forums

The CD that came with the player should have come with SonicStage (which is used for transferring music) and a nifty program called Image Converter (used for converting/transferring videos or photos).

The process is very simple, simply install Image Converter, connect the Walkman and add the file to the list and click transfer - everything should be simple and straightforward

I can't really tell you what sites you should be looking at for video downloads as that's actually illegal, but believe me, it is hard to find a SITE where you can download videos from for free

For videos to convert, I would recommend sticking to videos such as AVI, MP4

Thanks for that - the image converter software worked for the 1st movie but not for any others. I'm quite happy to pay for a site and content but do no know which are the best. The last movie I tried to convert was in MP4 format and neither Image Converter or Roxio Copy and Convert will touch it. If you know of legitimate sites that will work with NWA 808 and Image converter I'm happy to pay!!!! ( I just want to be able to watch movies!!!!!!)

Someone told me you could access the apple ipod sites but I'm not sure. Would you know if this is true?

Does the film you download work on your PC? Maybe you are trying to transfer something that is corrupt.

I'm not too worried about this particular film - I need help choosing download sites and formats suitable for Sony NWA 806 and 808. I haven't had any problems whatsoever. I've used AVS Video (www.avsmedia.com) to convert .

What about screensavers/virus scanners working in the background that may have caused a hiccup during the transfer?

How did you resolve the problem? I have problems convert DVDs into the correct format for my Sony A808 as well. Upon transferring a 'supposedly' converted mp4 file (which plays fine on my PC), I get a message say that the file format is not supported.
