Question

Help!

I'm close to smashing my NW-A3000 to bits!!!

I have had it 3 months and only last night, after the 3rd install (following 2 failed Sonicstage and 1 failed connectplayer attempts of getting more than 3 albums on the device, and about 3 hours to sony tech support who could only say I need to send the device to be tested, at a cost of £shed-loads)

A major error in the first installs was the database file, and the lack of saving it! - any ideas what was going on there? the music was on the player, but SS and the player wouldn't recognise any of it!

Anyway, on to the latest issue...

The last install I deleated everything to do with sony and OpenMG off my PC, and SS (CP4.3) worked fine for about 2 hours (about 40 albums) but then, with no warning decided it didn't want to transfer music and wouldn't let me transfer,so i gave up (at least this time the databse file didnt corrupt and I can actually listen to music, I just cant add any more!).

However today I am now getting an error saying I loaded my music using an old version of sonicstage and I need to format my device and delete all my music!

What the feck is going on, I've never installed an earlier version on SS let alone transfered songs, please help, this is seriously pissing me off.

Is this going to happen every day! I am going to have to strip my PC of all sony files and reload everyhting everytime I want to add a file!???

Whats wrong with sony, it cant be that difficult for a big multinationl to provide a simple bit of software surely!!!

As I said, help please?

Well, that's what you get for buying a Sony DAP. :D Welcome to the world of Sony.

1st thing I would do is to use Asia Pacific version of Sonicstage. At least with that version, it should not ask you to re-initialize the player everytime you update the software.

Wow, 50+ views and no respond? pettsay, you need to add keywords like iPod and sound quality, and I bet you'll get more responds. :D

Thanks for the response, I have tried your suggestion, and it hasn't solved my problem, or at least it hadn't last night.

I even tried going through and deleting all files again, this time including everything from the registry that I could find to do with sony, openmg and sonicstage.

It worked for about 40 albums again, then just stopped transfering, even the asia pacific version. In fact, the asia pacific version didn't recognise the songs that I had earleir managed to get on the player (should i re-initialise the disk and try again you think)

Are there any known issues of conflicts with programs/rocesses that may be running while sonic stage is doing its stuff?

This is bugging me so much i might go and get a better quiality ipod :o)

What OS are you using? If Vista, make sure you use SS4.3. If XP, make sure you have SP2 fully updated. If you have all your music on your computer, than I would just re-initialize the player and start fresh with the Asia Pacific version.

Well, you said it yourself. :) iPods are not necessarily better quality, but definitely easier to use so I spent more of my time listening to my music than dealing with the software.

Were you trying to transfer large batches at the same time? I read other people complained of large transfers stalling during the process. Once they transferred smaller batches, it was OK. Sorry if this answer is out of context - I was too lazy to read the whole thread. . .

THanks for the replies.

I wouldn't mind only listening to the music I have on it, but there's only 580 songs and thats it, so only a small fraction of my music collection, and the point of buying this was to put as much on there as possible!!!

I have made 3 complete clean installs of sonic stage, including the asia pacific version as suggested, however, i'm still getting the same issue.

I did a complete removal again of everything form my PC and registry and install clean version of SS CP4.3 (AP version).

I transfered songs (in small batches, no more than 4 albums at time, but usually just 2 or 3) then when it got to about 580 songs (approx) i got a pop up saying

unable to transfer the following songs...

then a list of songs.

Frustrating!!!

I'm now wondering if its something to do with the capacity and maybe the hard drive is damaged? had no problems with the player though, i think.

I have a sony-ericsson phone that uses disk2phone, which I have never had a single issue with and always transfers song to my phone with no issues! any chance this will work on the NW-A3000? Thats all I need, I dont want fancy top 100 shuffle (though would be good) I JUST WANT TO TRANSFER MUSIC!!! AAARRGGGHHH!!!

I'm gonna give up soon.

Thanks for help so far, any other suggestions???

I have had these popups too. In my case the files that wasn't transferred were either corrupt or had strange characters in the file name. The former was resolved opening the file in mpTrim and then just saving it again and the latter was resolved by simply renaming the file. After this SS would transfer as normal.

Thanks, I'll try this tonight and will post the outcome of this continuing saga...

Where/what is mpTrim?

Tried changong the names but no luck, it doesn't work with track imported using gracenote, which seems stupid to me.

Could there be another file some where that has stopped SS working?

AARRGGHH

also, being as sony are dropping connect music store and atrac seems to be being phased out, it probably is just better to get something else.

very dissapointed that (in my opinion) a brilliant player is let down by poor software and support.

When I was referring to a clean installation I meant for you do was more dramatic. You may have to a clean installation of your computer. This means reinstalling most of you software, including your operation system. However, you should do some first.

You would need to run an anti-virus software and spyware scanner first on your computer. Please ensure that both software is updated, and that when running the software that you are not connected to the internet.
