NW-A1000 Sound problems

Question

Hi there,

unfortunatly i dropped my MP3 today, and im now having serious issues. There is no visable damage, but i believe its having some internal problem.

Firstly the headphones are fine and the warrenty is up. Also it was turned off when it was dropped.

Anyway, when I turn it on it appears to be functionning well, there are no issues with whats being dispalyed on the screen. However, when i try to listen to it, the sound seems muffled, and only comes out on 1 side. Then the sound will suddenly vanish, and if i tap it slightly it may come back, but then again it may not. Also when it changes song, instead of the normal bleep theres a weird sound as the next song starts which i can only compare to a dj scratching a disk.

Now Im hoping there are nos erious problems, and Im willing to take off the back and have a look, but I wondered if anyone else have any ideas.

Thanks

I have had pratically the same problem. I dropped my NWA-1000 once, and now sound only comes out of one headphone. if i push down on the headphone jack, i will then be able to hear out of both, but it is a hassle to keep pushing it down. Also when i change songs, the beep no longer functions.

me too, i have had thoughts about taking the back off but im not sure if i will either solve the problem, or cause an even bigger problem.

Please, if anyone has suggestions for the both of us, it would be very much appreciated.

ok there are 2 solutions that I can see now, one drastic and the other the sensible one.

1. take it to a sony authorized dealer to get it fixed, i'd get a quote first for cost of fixing it. if it's over a 50-100 bucks, don't get it fixed, not worth it.

now for the drastic

2. open it up and see if a cable or the headphone jack is loose, perhaps you can fix it yourself. this could end in either you fixing the unit, or totally breaking it.

if you opt for #2 and it breaks (hope it don't) take the unit completely apart and dissect it :D and do a tear apart of it and perhaps chris or yoshi can stick it on the front of the blog, seeing as I've not seen a take apart of a sony A1000.
