Jozo Z. Budy
Hi guys,I am quite new in this area, in fact since 2 days ago when I bought my NW-A806. Prior buying I read a lot of fora regarding troubles with SS however I was stubborn, liked it and bought it anyway... It was the last time I was optimistic about Sony software... Basically I have this problem:I've been living in Japan for some month now so I bought my Walkaman in Japan (logical). I was installing Japanese version of SS4.3 from orginal CD supplied on Japanese WinXP (logical). However the instalation program does not display Japanese characters corretly and replaces them with question marks '?' (illogical). So my istallation procedure looked like this '???' '???????' '????' '????????????' 'OK' '?????' '????(' '???'. Interestingly I was somehow successful in installing the software, however SS soft after installation again displayed only question marks. Unfortunately I did not notice any option to instal the program in English during installation process (How could I anyway???) Is there any??? Looks like Sony intelligence did not expect that anyone who cannot speak Japanese will buy this player in Japan. Anyway this is not an excuse for why it does not display Japanese characters on correctly installed Japanese WinXP...Can you help me with this issue? At least if anyone could make me some screenshot from the program in English because I am not able to use the program right now :-( I have been googling and reading fora almost for 6 hours but have found nothing usefull :-( Can you help me with this, please? At least if anyone could make me some screenshots from the program in English because I am not able to use the program right now. Many thanks guys! pata2001
Is your winXP showing Japanese fonts (ie. in explorer, IE, etc)? If not, then maybe you have not installed the fonts (not installed by default, at least in US XP installations). Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Languages tab, check "Install files for East Asian languages." Also on the advance tab, there is a language option for non-unicode programs. I think Sonicstage installation check this setting. If it's set to English, it will install the English version. If it's set to Japanese, it will install the Japanese version. You can always download the specific regional version: http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2607My recommended is to download and install the Asia Pacific version. Jozo Z. Budy
Hi, Thanks for a quick response. The computer I currently use was previously used by my Japanese colleagues. I am angry because I can work with WXP only as far as I remeber its English version, 'cos I cannot read Japanese :-) All the Japanese characters must have been displayed correctly before otherwise any Japanese who used using the computer would had reinstalled it. Also any Japanese web site (news, shopping website, etc.) are displayed corretly. However the only part of SS installation I could read, was the one where I should choose the location and the only possibility is to choose Japan... :-(Anyway, I would prefer English version, but the Internet Installer does not allow me to instal SS in English. Is there any way to solve this? Or is there at least a possibility to select English language during installation of this Japanese version? Many thanks! Edited December 5, 2007 by Jozo Z. Jozo Z. Budy
Thank for help guys. I solved it by reinstalling the SS soft using the English version stored under directory English on the CD :-)
