NWS706F CRASH ...access...

New to the forum so hope you can help... Member of AV Forums but no help as yet!!!

My mate has a Sony NWS706F MP3 player and i was transferring pc music files to the player. Using drag and drop the files went into the player ok and showed up on the folder menu when the player was connected to the pc (via usb).

On checking the player (disconnected from pc) it showed no files...?wrong position or name for files as can occur ie. psp.

Renamed file as "001_1101" in music folder then when i tried to run the player it "crashed" and is still (24hrs later) stuck on "...access..." mode flashing on the led window.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated...

Hi, yes...nothing happens at all and i forgot to mention that when reconnected (via usb) to the pc, the system no longer recognizes the hardware!

Also reinstalled SStage with the same results.

And why lots of sympathy...does that mean the mp3 is gubbed?

You have our sympathies because most likely the player is gone. Sonicstage and its associated hardware are inseparable, and it looks like you tried to break that marriage by using drag and drop. In a way it's really admirable how far Sony is committed in protecting its products from any outside interference.

Well I would have hoped that reset would at least give you normal access to the menu. Then you could reformat the unit. Barring that, the only thing I could think of would be to leave it on until the battery dies -- May be that will reset it?

Hi Terry...Thanks for the reply.

The unit has been discharged twice over but it makes no difference!

I'm amazed that renaming a folder causes the unit to "die"...ridiculous!!!

Also, my mate called Sony and they said they can repair it for ONLY £71...the unit only cost £60!!!
