Hi, I have exactly the same problem with my NWZ-A818. The audio part of it is great but it seems impossible to get any video to run on the player. I have tried converting the files to the correct format using the programme recommended above but no joy.

I have a feeling that Sony have marketed this device with no video support in place. Hopefully they will sort this out ASAP.

Has anyone else had any joy getting videos to run on their NWZ?

Cheers

Hi I got one of these and used Xilisoft MP4 Converter. ( Just Google ) This will convert .avi or any other format choose - i-pod mpeg-4 video minimal size as the output type & press encode. You can download and trial which will convert 5 mins only but will prove it works.

A full licence will cost£18 however. Once converted you can drag and drop the encoded video though.

Hope this helps !

SONY NWZ-A816 VIDEO PROBLEM SOLUTION

Hey guys, i bought the NWZ-A816 a few days ago and found the same video problem and i've finally figured how to get playable video on there. I used Nero Recode 2 which can convert avi/mpg and dvds etc to mp4, just simply select the 'Sony Memory Stick' video category profiles and make sure the video resolution is set to 320x240 and the videos will work ;-) great quality and fast encoder too!

HOPE THIS HELPS!

I've transferred several videos to my player using the ImTOO DVD ripper. Actually, the iPod profile works - though I modified it slightly - my settings are:

Video Codec is MP4, the video size is 320x240, Bit Rate is 512, Frame Rate is Auto, Audio Codec is mpeg4aac, Audio Bit Rate is 128, Sample Rate is 22050, Channels is 2, and Disable Audio = False.

Good luck.

i use Super © to convert my vids. I use 64 and 24 for video and audio bitrate, respectively. mp4 container and h264 encoding. Make sure you convert with the same fps as the original to prevent sync problems. Double click on the file in the program window once you've added it to the conversion list to find get the video's info.

The program website:

Super video Converter

the download link is at the bottom

Solution that might work:

I did have exactly the same problems - none of the MP4's created with those converters would drag onto my walkman through windows explorer (incorrect format, skip, skip all, blah blah).

Then.... i installed Windows Media Player 11. And now all the mp4's work fine! I can only assume that microsoft bundle new versions of "Media Transfer Protocol" libraries (needed for the dragging from explorer) with Windows Media Player 11? Sounds about incestuous enough for MS. Anyway, install or reinstall Media Player 11 and it might solve your problems - worked for me.
