Question

Hi, I've been a lurker here for quite a while, lots of good information here.

I've decided to import an NW-A808 from Japan, because I need a player that can do on-the-fly playlists.

My question is, will I be able to install the Japanese version of SonicStage & Image Converter 3 on my North American computer, and if so, can I change the programs language to english?

If I can't, then should I download SonicStage from the Sony U.S. site? Does anyone else have any experience with an imported NW-A800 player?

Thanks.

the sonicstage supplied with a808 automatically installs english version while installed on english pc, vista and xp.

I live in tokyo, few of my friends(non-japanese) are using it on english os.

but you have to change the language of a808 player, by default it is jap. This applies only for a80x, dont try buying s6 series, you cant change the menu language to english.

I have imported directly from japan. You just install both sonicstage and imageconverter from the supplied disks. No problem at all.

As the fanboy said you have to change language on the player. I had downloaded the manual and memorised the way in the menu's to the language settings. When I got the player I got a message in japanese and I could not go to the menu. It turned out that the hold button was on...

I think you will be very pleased with the player and after getting used to sonicstage I think you'll start to appreciate it. It's definately better than it's reputation. I rip in ATRAC advanced lossless/atrac3+ 256kb which I think sound grate. However, although Imageconverter is a good program it is a little bit too picky for my taste. Quite often it will report a problem with the filestream and abort so nowdays I'm using mencoder with a small drag and drop frontend which I think is much more convenient.

good luck with your new player
