kamikaziggy
I installed SS4.3 onto my Vaio laptop lately hoping it would fix a big problem I had encountered with SS on my faithful old VGN A115B Vaio laptop but NO! All my OPEN MG files in SS suddenly refuse to play (this is my entire vinyl library transferred over years onto SS with SS Mastering Studio). All my WAV and MP3 audio files are fine but after burning an audio CD copy of one of my vinyl records for a friend I got an error message "Hard Drive Full" and the burn crashed. Since that day none of my OPEN MG format audio files will play. So far Sony Support have not come up with a fix, mainly some very rudimentary suggestions like converting file format back to MP3 etc. I have tried HiMdRender to transfer all the ATRAC3plus files back to another format but they will not convert either. I think this may be a bug with the SS "Rights Issues License" as in my SS music library all the OPEN MG files suddenly have 0 beside all the fields "number of times played" "remaining transfers" and "remaining ATRAC CD transfers remaining". In reality all these OPEN MG audio files of mine are simply my own work, not downloads or licensed product - but SS seems to not want to let me play them anylonger. When I press the play icon on SS it simply does not respond. You cannot open pr play the file via Media Player either. The files still exist, there is a file size and location/path still shown but SS will not play ball and let me touch them any longer.Has anyone had any similar experiences or could suggest whats happened. APOLOGY: In my haste as a new member I may have posted a little earlier on a separate thread by accident.EDIT: My Vaio laptop is a VGN A115B running Windows XPHome now with SS4.3 fully updated with no previous interventions, maintenance or repairs. Only problem is with playing audio files of ATRAC3Plus format.
kino170878
If I remember correctly, before updating to a new Sonicstage version you should have used the backup tool. Sonicstage is the king of DRM protection, now its evil tentacles are all over your precious files. You're screwed basically. The only way out is to phone Sony support and tell them that if they don't play ball and unlock your files you are going to sue the hell out of them. atown8605
Kind of a strange problem. WE dont have all the info. Dont know what version of SS you originally used to rip the files especially since you say they were ripped from vinyl.Assuming they are drm protected himd render should have converted most of them any way. Since it ignores the drm or at least did in my case and I converted over 1000 files purchased from CONNECT.There are programs that will remove the drm (if that is the problem). himdrender is one and there are others. I dont know which one is the best. I prefer himdrender. All I can really suggest is doing a google search for "convert atrac to mp3" and checking out the programs that are advertised.Obvioustly if some one values their library they should have a backup.Keep us posted. I am not the most knowledgable person here.
kamikaziggy
That is a fair comment. I do in actually have each LP I transferred onto SS Mastering Studio safely backed up on a separate audio CD but I still dont want to go back to using SS all over again (as a music management system) until I got this bug figured out. I think the problem is centered around SS wrongly thinking all my ATRAC3Plus format audio files are "rights protected" as its showing in all fields of the SS4.3 libabry (as it did with my previous old SS version) that there are "0 remaining transfers" "0 remaining ATRAC CD transfers" and that each audio file has been played "O" times. Thats an error in itself as most of these tracks have been played and burned onto CDR hundreds of times. When I try to use SS4.3 itself to convert the format back to MP3 or WAV I get an error 00000908-6482 message from SS(see screen shot). When I use an external conversion system (like HiMdRender) the audio files do apparently convert format (they show up with the new .WAV suffix in a new folder) but will still not play with Media Player which produces an error code 0xCOD1199 which is an unsupported file type. One interesting thing when I use HiMdRender to convert the ATRAC3Plus files to .MP3 instead of .WAV it gives an error code (601-2-0) and says HiMdRender could not find the required DLL and to make sure all external encoders DLL's are in the same folder as HiMrRenderWin.exe. Iam not a computer buff AT ALL but do you think this HiMrRender error message could be a clue to my problem?
atown8605
I have used himdrender .54 or higher. The older versions dont have all the dll's. The latest version is 1.xx last I checked and works well with more features. If you are not using the latest version of himdrender you should try that first.I would also consider d/l ss again because something has changed either the library files or ss. To me it makes more sense that SS changed then the library itself. If your library is saved in WAV or mp3 format then there is no drm involved because they do not support it. atown8605
OK I think I know what the problem is.SS cant find the library. Go to OPTIONS and location to save imprted files. See if it is the same location as the library. If not make it the same. That should solve the problem.
kamikaziggy
Sadly no! The path to the SS library is ok. My .WAV and .MP3 files all still play okay .... just the ATRAC3Plus Open MG audio files which I made from my vinyl record collection with Mastering Studio are affected ... which makes me think this problem is an ATRAC3plus Codec problem.Thing is it will not let me convert the ATRAC files back to .MP3 or .WAV either. I think this is possibly a "rights issue" problem as the SS ATRAC believes falsely these files are "rights protected". I have attached a screen print which shows the fields "number of times played" "number of transfers remaing" "number of audio CD transfes remaining" etc and they all say ZERO - which is not correct and leads me to think SS is somehow blocking me from handling these files. None of the other .WAV or .MP3 files are subject to "digital rights management" issues and wikipedia entries lead me to think this "rights issue" may be the source of the bug why the ATRAC files will not play.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_Stage
atown8605
Every 6th file says U unlimited. Something definitley happened to the library. I dont know what and the only thing I can think of is to replace the library.
