Problems converting MP3's to Atrac in Sonicstage 4.3...?

Hi there

I am having a big problem converting mp3's to Atrac in Sonicstage and would love some help please.

My sonicstage library has been imported from My Music as Mp3's. Some of these files have been ripped from CD, others have been downloaded. Sonicstage is able to convert any Mp3 I have ripped from CD myself, however it won't convert the downloaded Mp3's (although it always could in the past). It will allow me to transfer the downloaded Mp3's to my NW HD3 but only in MP3 format. This means I can't transfer all of my library since a lot of the MP3's are large files (320 kbps etc) and this also has a knock on effect with battery life etc.

I get the following message:

Cannot convert the specified tracks.

Possible reasons may include:

- The track (files) cannot be found

- SonicStage does not support the file format of the track

- The track is copyright protected.

Obviously the tracks are not copyright protected. If I download a "fresh" MP3 and save it somewhere other than in My Music, like desktop for example, and then import it into sonicstage, I am able to convert it.

I have SS 4.3 and win XP all updates.

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Will

Hi thanks for the reply.

I have tried deleting the library and reloading. I have tried a complete uninstall of sonicstage and then reimporting the music. Both attempts have drawn blanks. Same problem: can't convert mp3's I've downloaded off the web to ATRAC.

The fact that I can play them and transfer them across in their native mp3 format makes me believe that SS can find them. The tracks are all good quality, 128kbps minimum, most much higher. They are definitely not copy protected. I am able to convert mp3's I have ripped from CD myself though.

I suspect that it may be something to do with id tags on the files or SS thinking that these files are copy protected for some reason (although they aren't).

Any more suggestions greatly appreciated.

I cant see them having drm because mp3 does not support drm. So I guess that only leaves the format changing but why would the format change on all the mp3's?

I'm surprised more people arent interested in this because a lot people have their library saved in mp3 format.

If you want to email me an mp3 I will try and convert it to atrac in SS and let you know what happens.

My email address is alyons8605@charter.net.
