Bazirker
Hey, I was looking over the MZ-N10 (I WANT IT!) and thinking about the power differences between international models and the US model. Now the MZ-N10 needs a 6V adaptor, right? Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't slightly older (as in 4 years ago) sony portable cd players come with 6V adaptors? If I had one (which i think I do), could I buy a japanese MZ-N10, download the english sonicstage 1.5, use my 6V sony US adaptor, and then have, essentially, the US model? Is there some sort of internal difference in MD players concerning different power sources, or is it all in the adaptor? the pic of the adaptor on the MZ-N10 equipment page looks like the plug on it resembles normal sony cd portable plugs. I dunno, I'm just curious...plus I don't want to have to wait for the MZ-N10 to reach the US. living in the US can be such a pain in the ass sometimes...we're the last to get cool electronics, we can't get a bunch of really cool cars (i.e. Nissan Skyline), plus George W. is just a pain in the ass... Mystyler
My old PCDP came with a 4.5V adapter - but even if some Sonys did come with 6V, the plug would be much to big, if mine is anything to go by. The only diff if is in the adapter itself, due to different world power systems. All the adapters would supply 6VDC, 500mAh to the unit, but the input AC can vary from 100VAC to 250VAC, and from 50Hz to 60Hz. You could easily buy the Jap spec N10, and a RadioShack adapter for it. BTW, if you guys think that you are the last to get cool electronics, come to Australia.
ulisse
I just had some AC Adapter problems. I replaced it with a Radio Shack unit and didn't work very well. Finally I went to Best Buy and bought a Recoton Universal AC Adapter Model AD-500. It's a generic model, but it comes with a voltage selector (3, 4.5, 6, 7.5, 9, 12V DC), includes the most commonly used plug tips for DC-powered electronic devices and ... it works fine. Leland
The answer is yes, you can. You could even download OpenMG Jukebox and use it. The 6V adapter you have would probably work, as all 6V adapters I have from Sony have the same plug configuration as the new one. If this proved wrong for some reason, then yes, Mystyler is correct, an appropriate adapter from RadioShack or Fry's or Dick Smiths would work fine. BTW, Mystyler, I am going to Australia for vacation in mid December and I will have my N10 with me. I am powering it with the compact 6V 100-240V travel adapter Sony sells in Japan. (had to purchase separately) You can have the pleasure of knowing someone in OZ is tuning out to the output of an N10 they paid a reasonable (non australian) price for:) only weeks after introduction. Pft, it was a DS8 or DR7, then I'd hunt you down, and become your best friend! Sony? Nah! Mind you, the N10/E10 ain't out officially here yet, but you can get them from Minidisc Australia for a price that would give Sony Australia excs nightmares, as they'd they'd never match that price... EDIT: BTW, where are you headed Down Under, Leland?
me
I'm picking up a nice new non-shrunken lens E710, for only 22800 yen. Joy! (well, i'm picking it up from her when she gets back.. Double joy! ) I don't think I like the idea of owning the smallest MD in the world.. I mean, I could accidentally swallow it Oh, and if you think australia has rip-off prices, you haven't been to NZ . I think next time I "upgrade" i'll go to Japan. I'm deadly serious, too.. If you want an AC adapter, then any old international one would be good. And would also work for any other product you import, too, so it's not a one off like the BC-7HT (only good for gumstick batteries from MD/CD players..) Leland
I'm headed to Sorrento, south of Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula. Last time I was there, I was delighted to be using my MZ-R2!
Mystyler
How times change! Still have your R2? I take it you are living in Japan?
Leland
Yes, I live in Tokyo. I sold my R2 years ago to buy an R30. A 13 year old kid bought it with money from the sale of a baseball card collection. I didn't know these details until he asked me to see if I could get a repair covered under the extended warranty I had. You see, he left it on the floor of his room and his dog chewed it up. He sent it back to me, so I verified the dog teeth marks with my own eyes. The repair guy couldn't believe I even asked. Lukes dad finally bailed him out. Sad story.
