Hi,

I'm considering buying an MZ-N10. Is there anyone who has got some experience with this unit?

1. I learnt that the installation CD-ROM is in Japanese *only*. So where do i get the drivers to make the unit work? Will it work with English language OpenMG 2.2 and/or SonicStage 1.5?

2. There seems to be some kind of a "built in battery"? Does this mean you have to buy a new unit when the battery is broke?

3. Just to be sure: it is an "extended" release of the MZ-N1, right? Like more functions would heve been added to the MZ-N1?

4. As I live in Europe, it's imoortant to know a bit more about the power supply... voltage, frequency (we got 230V / 50Hz) and the power the MD needs (3Volts, 6 Volts? 100 mA, 300 mA???

5. I guess the upload/download restrictions are still the same as for the MZ-N1 and other NetMD's? (unable to upload your own recordings from MD to your PC?)

Thanks for your help!!!

1. AFAIK, the Japanese drivers will work, but the Jap software (OpenMG, SS) won't work on English OS'. Try hunting around on www.minidisct.com/forum/index.php for links to all the English software you need, but they might not be available anymore, as the demand for such SW caused as huge jump in bandwidth.

2. No, the battery is replaceable.

3. Depends, the N10 and E10 are to celebrate the 10 years MD have been around for consumers. The N1 was the 2002 Sony MD recorder, and I would think that the N10 is the 2003 flagship from Sony.

4. Grab a Euro spec adapter as the Japanese one runs on 100VAC, 60Hz(?). Get one with no more than 6VDC and no less than 500mAh output.

5. You bet.

Yes, the software you have, OpenMG Jukebox 2.2, will work with the N10, you simply need to install the N10 drivers first. Frankly, I don't recommend "upgrading" to Sonicstage 1.5. I cannot find much benefit, and it seems to operate very slowly. I don't know if that is due to the fact that I have both OpenMG Jukebox and Sonicstage installed at the same time, but I doubt it. I just think it is slow software. I find myself using OpenMG Jukebox 2.2 instead. The NetMD download speed enhancements with the N10 work fine with OpenMG Jukebox.
