hi, i have the mz-n707 and im trying to transfer songs using openmg jukebox via usb, but when my songs are done recording, no matter what mode, they are almost always staticy-sounding, like it sounds like my headphones are blown when i listen

its not because of magnetic interference when recording, because the attrac file saved on my computer from the original mp3 is staticy too, but the mp3s are perfectly fine.

i called sony tech support, this is what they told me to do and the result:

- reinstall openmg, didnt help

- use that uninstall patch from their site, didnt help

- reformat computer, didnt help

- try to find some conflicting software, theres nothing on my computer that could be interfering, the only programs running other then openmg are explorer and system tray when im transferring songs

then i tried using realone player, the same thing happens, plus i cant get the damn thing to record LP Stereo, which is another story

now the only way i can transfer songs with netmd is using the simple burner program, which is a pain in the ass

the weird thing is when i first got my recorder it worked perfectly fine, which was about a month ago, and another weird thing is it works sometimes for one song, then it goofs up on the rest tongue.gif

what the hell is going on?? can someone help me please???

btw my computer is an old 350mhz amd k62, 64 mb ram, with win98 if that helps and my recorder is the mz-n707, and my software is openmg v2.2 and realone 8

i want to add that the cause of this isnt openmg conflicting with realone because i had openmg installed weeks before i tried realone tongue.gif

if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!!

hey sorry to hear youre having so much trouble.

well the only problem i can find here is your computer. the specs arent too good. 64mb ram is really stretching it cuz Windows already uses up about 32 mb.

the lowest cpu ive used my netmd on was a athlond 900mhz with 256 ram.

have you tried it on antoher computer before??

try it on a different computer that is better than yours if it works theres your problem.

the thing that has me fooled is that it worked when you first got it.

there seems to be a problem with the program encoding the ATRAC file. since it sounds bad there too.

try Dinos simpleburner/nero method if you havent seen it yet its in this same forum.

I'm having the exact same problem, only my computer is a 1.8 GHz w/ a ton of RAM and my software has NEVER worked! I have static in 90% of my converted mp3/atracs. No matter what I try, there are clicks and pops in so many of them! Anyone have any ideas? I could really use some help.

Aloha!

Nate

Brand new Sharp MT880, recording via NetMD USB using OpenMG and SimpleBurner. Right track on all recordings contains static -- does sound like a broken headphone, but it's not. Static volume seems to be directly proportional to volume, but more restricted in dynamic range. Occurs even during very quite or silent passages, but NOT during the 2-second digital silence between tracks.

Present in all tracks, whether sourced from CD or converted MP3.

No problem in the left track.

If anyone has a solution (or even a diagnosis) for this, PLEASE post. Otherwise I'm going to have to return the dang thing, which I don't want to do.

Computer is AMD XP2000+, 512 MB RAM, Win2K.

Confirmed today the same exact problem using SonicStage 1.5.

So it must be a problem in either the ATRAC3 coding/decoding, or in the USB link ... But how could it be the link? Isn't it a digital transfer ("just bits")? So how would (analog) signal-related distortion be introduced by the USB link?

Damn. Anybody have any ideas?

A problem with the OpenMG components (since all three programs share some components, right)? But there are folks using these programs who don't have this problem, aren't there?

For right and left "track" read "channel", of course.

And I mean that the volume of the static is directly proportional to the volume of the music, but doesn't get as loud as the loudest musical passages, nor as quiet as the quietest musical passages.
