millie
Hi I'm new to this MD lark. I've just got a MZ-R909 for Xmas and would like to hook up to my PC. I believe that an audio adapter is available from Sony to allow USB to optical connection. Is this a good option or not?
Bazirker
I think that is a good option if your PC doesn't "skip" while playing back audio. My old computer's playback was choppy and so a skip would make like 10 track marks. If you've got a good PC, go for it. What sound card do you have? If your sound card has an optical output, then you should use that and not a PC link. If it has a coaxial output, I recommend a coaxial>optical converter over the PC link because it is easier (no drivers and such.)
millie
Thanks for the reply. My PC is a 2.2 GHZ AMD Athlon running XP Pro. It has a Creative SoundBlaster 5.1 card which has digital out but not optical, I've tried a hook up to the digital, however I get a poor quality recording. I get what you mean about the drivers and stuff. I will need to find a stockist in the UK for the coax to optical converter. After all this I wonder if I would be better off with a MZ N1. Aidix
I have a Xitel MD-PORT USB on my PC, and the sound skips a LOT!!! Even when winamp is the only active app. It never skips when I play it through my normal soundcard. Try before you buy....

Bazirker
Aidix, I had that problem too on my old computer. Do you know why it does that? I wouldn't think that changing the ouptut from the sound card to the USB port should slow it down as much as it does...
Guest Anonymous
I wonder if there's not something else at work here with the skipping problems. I used the USB to optical adaptor on an eMachines with a 333 MHz Celeron processor and had no problems. No problems with the new computer either (1.8 GHz). Guest Anonymous
hi i want to know if one of you knows which software i need to write my songs's name from the computer and not from the MD?
Devilbunny
I've got an MD-Port DG2, and I've found that it's best to kill every running process before starting your mp3 player. Then start the mp3 player and don't touch the computer - at all - until it's finished recording. Be sure your screensaver is turned off. That works in Windows 98, so it should work for any Windows version.
