So maybe this is relevant for those buying items via paypal. In November, I sold something to someone who paid me via paypal. Several days after the transaction, paypal reversed the transaction and took the money out of my account, BUT they did not put it back in the other person's account. According to Paypal, the other person had recently changed address and they flagged this transaction as possible fraud. We both replied with the information they requested. But no response from Paypal, despite many follow ups. As of today, January 20th, 2003, Paypal has STILL not refunded the money to her account AND they have still not put it back in mine. In other words they have STOLEN the money. Right now she has reported them to her credit card company for fraudulently taking her money. As for me, I will never use Paypal again. If they were an hn So yeah, its true actually. Paypal is not on the up-and-up. While they carry out financial transactions, I don't think they fall under the regulations that banks do, otherwise they couldn't pull a stunt like this. Can you imagine getting a wire transfer of $1000 cash in your bank account and then several days later, your bank tells you that you dont have access to that money, YET they don't return it to the sender? I have heard of others with similar problems. BEWARE OF PAYPAL. $1,000 missing for 3 months and they don't fix it?They really don't give a damn about customers and they cannot be trusted with your money. They held all the moeny (more than $1,000) for over 3 months in total I think. No apology or reason given at all. They finally admitted that they had no justifiable basis for holding that money. Nor did they pay interest interest on this money that they had frozen, but were obviously earning float on! Needless to say that money is getting withdrawn and neither of us will EVER use Paypal again. Screw them! I have been using Paypal to buy and sell for a few years now and haven't had one problem. Not to say they don't exist. The real issue is their busines model, which is that they stick it too you on transactions fees that are steep and they make a killing on "float" ie using your money and not paaing interest. But most important, the set up the rules so that when something coes wrong - YOU take the hit, not them. Its pretty common in the "consumer finance industry". Even though this thing is a mighty convenient tool, they are screwing over a lot of people when problems or disputes occur - and they do quite often. Taking $1,000 for over 3 months out of a credit card and not refunding it is nothing short of CRIMINAL. Even your credit card company can't get a away with that. THAT's way E-bay bought these guys - the lax regulations allow you to make a fortune - where as a real bank could never legally do the things these guys do to make money.
