Foxfire
I have a question about the N505: With the battery supplied, can I play for 56 hours? And if I need another battery, which? And the earphones that come iwth; are they that kind that you have one in your ear, and to the other there's a line to the other? And one more thing; a 80 minutes disc can take up to 320 minutes of music, but how much does a 74 minuted disc take? //Foxfire
KJ_Palmer
You'll get a maximum of 20 hours with the supllied NiCd rechargeable battery. Probably a bit less as Sony's figures are based on ideal, non-realistic conditions. The '56 hours' are based on non-rechargeable (probably alkaline) batteries like Duracell. Both these figures are based on playback of LP4 disks. LP2 and SP playback times are reduced accordingly. (LP4 is the worst quality/longest time on a disk, LP2 is good quality/medium time. SP is best quality/shortest time per disk). The supplied earphones are the in-ear type, one line to each ear. They're also cheap, nasty and uncomfortable and should be replaced by something better asap. A 74 minute disk will record up to 296 (=4x74) minutes of music, ie. in LP4 mode. KJ_Palmer
You'll need NiMH's with a higher capacity (eg. 1700mAH) to get anywhere near 50+ hours. And you need AA's, not AAA's.
Daijoubu
Get a external NiMh charger and Energizer 1850mAh (there's also 2000mAh now)
