transNTT
I am purchasing Mini Binaural Microphones from Stealth Audio to use with a MZ-N1. I plan to get the premium mic and therefore will need a battery module. I can get a great deal on a premium module, however w/o switchable bass roll-off or level control. So my question is: how important are these things? I have no experience here. Whats the word? Thanks
Leland
It depends a little on what kind of music you are going to record. If it is loud rock oriented music, the bass rolloff might me needed.
SimonMagus
I have another question re: battery modules (with or without bass rolloff): I know that this will help record louder sounds/events, as well as sounds with a lot of low-frequency bass. But I also heard that since battery modules extend the whole dynamic range of the microphones, it will ALSO help you record much quieter sounds that you wouldn't be able to pick up otherwise. Is this true?
Guest Anonymous
another two questions: i have MZ-N505 and i think of buying stealth audio premium binaural microphones and battery module... it's said (on www.stealthaudio.net ) that switchable bass roll-off and level controls are accessible outside the battery module... anyone can tell me how does it work/look like?... i've heard that mic > battery module > line in recordings are too quiet... will level controls in the battery module help in that case?... Guest Anonymous
Mic> battery module>line in recordings are quiet, but isnt a huge problem because you can always boost the levels later . Level controls dont boost the levels at all, but would be a plus because you can crank the line level gain on the recorder and use the module's levels to control the volume. Thats what I do. Guest Anonymous
thanks, Chris... i'm just wondering if the sound is loud enough to be by shown on the level meter on display... i know there might be problems with track marks being added everytime there are 2 seconds of more quiet music... i'm afraid that some hiss noises will appear while i'll be copying sound from MD to PC through headphone output... does something like this appear?... sorry i'm asking so many questions, but i REALLY WANT to use microphone with my MD and i don't know if battery module is worth buying... Guest Anonymous
Sometimes it will auto track mark only at very quiet acoustic shows but if you have your gain turned up high enough it isnt a problem. plus if you transfer it into the pc you can just send it in as one track and split it how you like. you will get only a tiny bit of his but that is usually from transfering the show via analog cable If you recording concerts a battery box is all you need with mics its not worth it to buy a pre-amp. cheers Chris
