Guest Anonymous
hey everyone, im wanting to get an md but not sure which one. im thining probably 707 at the moment coz its fairly cheap, but how about the 710? i would probably have gotten it by now except that it says the output is only 1.2mW per side, is that right? i dont know much about what it really means, but it certainly doesnt sound like a good thing compared to 5mW for most md's, and with people complaining about that not being loud enough. other than that it seems like the 710 is better than the 707 so what do you all reckon, is 1.2 enough?? thanks
me
1.2 is no way good enough. Get either the N707 or a higher up sony with 5mW per channel..

Guest Anonymous
Many MD for europe also have output lower than 5mW, including N10

Guest Anonymous
I've posted this a few times, but I feel that I HAVE to defend the 710 from some of its detracters. ------------------------------------ Just got my 710 and was very worried about what I'd heard about it being so quiet (a bit about crap headphones at the end). Making it loud is REALLY easy though. There is NO HACK required here (you shouldn't hack it anyway, or you'll invalidate your waranty and it's such a beautiful machine.) Read p 34 and p 35 in your instruction manual (or the section headed "Adjusting the sound - Virtual Surround 6 Band Equaliser)." The automatic settings that it came with are quiet so as not to ruin people's hearing (and to stop SOny being sued - I guess). What you do is: 1/ On your remote Press Sound repeatedly until your display says "SOUND". 2/ Press and HOLD the Sound Button for about 2 seconds or more. 3/ Slide the jog lever repeatedly (either left or right, it doesn't matter) to select the sound mode. 4/ NOTE all of the other options are very quiet (ie HEAVY and POPS etc). SO you have to select CUSTOM 1 5/ Press the jog lever (press it IN, like a push button). 6/ You should now have a row of 6 little lines. Each one representing a frequency of your 6 Band Equaliser !!! 7/ Each little line can be moved up and down to make that particular frequency higher or lower. 8/ Move the volume button repeatedly. Each time you move it up (ie volume higher), the little line will move up, and down for down (of course). TO set that first little line, push the jog dial to the RIGHT. 9/ Now you'll be on the 2nd little line, and so you should do the same again, for each little line. 10/ Press the jog dial IN when you're done. Hey Presto! A REALLY LOUD mini disc player. ----------------- Look forward to shouting at you all when we're older. HEADPHONES Sony always give you crap headphones these days. Yes, the ones that come with the 710 are naff. Obviously Sony save money on crap accessories, like the case and the phones. When I bought my tape playing walkman a few years ago, it came with this fantastic pair rather like 'ear plugs'. MDR-ED21LP Sony Fontopia plus Earphones (can't find a pic of them, sorry, probably google for them). These aren't quiet, and I've never had them distort (well, not never, but you really have to try). I can never get the normal kind to stay in my ears. I'd highly recommend them, although I think you can only get the long version now (do check with sony to see if the shorter version is available - otherwise - added to the remote, it would make for rather a lot of cord). They're very comfy and never fall out.
