dj_mdma
Hi, I'm new to this site, bla bla bla, love minidisc etc. anyway, My MZ-N1 started developing some funny symptons about 9 months into its life. The disc wouldn't spin up properly. the motor would spin up, but a clicking sound could be heard. The only way to remedy this was to press down on the top of the unit, so as to make the disc make FULL contact with te motor. That worked. however, I got tired of doing this and sent it off to my local Sony Centre to get it repaired as it was still under warranty. They sent a note back 6 weeks later saying that the problem was caused by water damage, and it wasn't covered by the warrenty. Fair enough. It would cost well over £100 to fix, so i took it back. Now it seems to be working fine. The motor spins up fine with and without the MD in the unit. however, i think the unit is stuck in some sort of Diagnostic/service mode? It appears like this on the Ld display 002 Ver1.100 and it flashes on and off. Using the buttons goes through stuff like "laser" "mot Pwr" and there are two tests of motor ability. I think its in diagnostic mode, how can i get it out of this? I think the unit is fine now, apart from this little annoyance! Please bear in mind that I'm a noob and i'm not entriely sure on how to interpret how to "hack" into the unit, so if anyone can help, please say it to me like I'm a ten year old, lol! Daijoubu
Power off the unit, remove all source of current, if this doesn't work...Sony might have fogotten to de-solder the test mode bridge on the PCB
dj_mdma
bugger, doing that doesn't work. How do i go about desoldering this "test mode Bridge"?
Guest Anonymous
I have the same problem that you originally stated with the disc spinning and pushing down on the top and whatnot. I know I never had it near any water though... Did they tell you anything specific about the problem? I was about to send mine off to sony, but I'd hate to have it returned without being fixed. I don't mean to hijack your post, but I'd appreciate some quick info/advice. Thanks!
dj_mdma
They told me nothing, since my sony centre had to send it somewhere else to get it diagnosed. Since then I've been without my MD! I'm just saving for an MZ-N10S now, and this time i'll keep it away from water AND get it insured!
