Mack Attack
I have recently purchased an ECM-MS907 Sony Mic for use with a SHARP MT80 mini disc recorder and I am experiencing poor microphone audio levels. The mic input on the Sharp is very hissy when the input level is turned up. This is really annoying because the mic cost £90. It sounded OK when I tested it in the shop. This was due to the background noise in the shop masking the hiss. It is really noticible when using in quiet conditions. Can anyone suggest a way to PRE-AMP this mic cheaply? I've seen units on the internet that can do this but they cost anywhere between £90 - £200. I'm sure the components and circuitry would be pretty cheap. Are there any techno heads out there who have built such a PRE-AMP unit after encountering similar volume problems? Mack Attack
sudden
I'm also looking for a cheap way to build a phantom feeding / pre-amp box but your problem may be of another nature. Your MD got two mic level settings, maybe you have it on low and therefor must boost input level to get any good sound? Change it to high and test record again, if that don't work try another mic or the mic in another MD unit. Sharp are renown for there superior mic recording usage. Anyone out here that can help us build a pre-amp box? Guides and part lists would be very appriciated or a link to a site that have those. They are a little to expensive to purchase retail. Atleast for one living outside US, as most manufacturs are located there.
MD4DNV
Try this link. http://www.minidisc.org/mic_preamp/Simple%...ic%20Preamp.htm There are also some good construction projects for battery boxes etc. I built my own battery box and stereo mic and they work great on my N707.
