devcoder
Hey MD Users, does anyone out there (a programmer) want to work a program or dll that will get rid of the SCMS copy protection allowing md users to upload recordings to there PC. I hear that you can upload files back from your MD to PC if they were checked out in OMG when you transfered them from your PC to MD? Is this true? If so then there might be some possiblely easy ways to get around this SCMS issue. Any info. is helpful. If anyone is interested on working on something releated to this please email me at codercpp@hotmail.com and maybe we can develop something that would help out the MiniDisc Community. Devilbunny
The hardware does not exist for USB MD->PC transfers. You want it off the MD, you use an MD-Data drive or do it in realtime. "Check-in" only means that it deletes the file from the MD. Sucks, eh?
Andy
Where did you get the idea that SCMS is the problem?
devcoder
Hey guys... so the hardware doesnt exist for USB MD->PC Transfers? Are you kidding? If so that sucks hehe. Is The MD Able to send data to the PC? If so then it might be possible thro USB to acheive an upload otherwise it will make this process alot harder. Please post back soon. Need any info. you guys have that could help me in this research! Thanks -Devcoder
Devilbunny
I'm not kidding. Obviously the two can communicate, but it's not as though the MD is a general-purpose machine that can be hacked to communicate any kind of data through any available interface. If you want your audio off the MD, you'll have to record it in real time, or get Sony to alter the machines. If you want actual ATRAC or ATRAC3 data, you'll have to get an MD-Data drive (or build one).
devcoder
So, if the track on the MD is analog you can transfer it to your PC? If that is true then all you have to do is send it an analog TOC when in actuality the material is digital. If this is correct please respond. Thanks -Devcoder
Devilbunny
You cannot transfer the MD information from MD to PC with the USB connection. It is not possible. Not even a little bit. Not even if you change the firmware. If you want to rip up an MD unit and design your own custom mechanism to read the data directly off the disc - that is, to design your own circuitry to replicate the functions of an MD-Data drive, then yes you could get actual ATRAC or ATRAC3 data off the disc. If you want to move stuff from MD to PC, hit "play" on the MD and "record" on the PC. SCMS prohibits transfer of songs from one MD to another using digital connections between the two. It has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with USB-based MD->PC data flow, which is simply not possible because the circuitry isn't there. You CAN TOC-clone to be able to copy a disc from an MD player to an MD recorder, but you still can't upload it directly (as the compressed ATRAC or ATRAC3 form) to your PC. BJ
Devilbunny's got it right. Get yourself a male-male 3.5mm stereo miniplug cable, plug one end into the headphone jack of your MD and the other into the line input jack on your computer's sound card, and use your favourite software to record the playing MD. That's how I get my vinyl transferred--works rather well.
thinkmd
This looks like an interesting product for those of you who are interested in MD-->PC digital transfers... http://www.esdl.co.uk/body/mdte/mdte.htm Does anyone know the price on this product? Has anyone had any experience with this product? Does anyone know of anyone else who makes a MD data drive?
