Yeah, I mostly use CD's for the same reason as just_visiting...most the mp3's online have some kind of horrible encoding.

If you're lucky, you can find decent mp3's on kazaa if you download higher bitrate (>128 kbps) that sound fine. I have a cd burner and I copy my friends' CD's everytime I get the chance, so I have a bunch of cd's.

You don't like the spyware on kazaa? try out this program:

http://www.dietk.com/

(Download button is at the top.)

It's a great program that hacks kazaa and eliminates spyware and other such crap. it makes kazaa run more efficiently and downloads are faster. I've been using it for months without anything other than satisfaction. Check it out!

WHOA, Nate! I read your thing backwards.

When you convert mp3 back to wav, you don't gain quality! You're wasting a lot of time doing that! The extra music data that was shaved off in compressing audio down to mp3 format can't be regained when you convert to wave.

and for songs that are at 128...just convert them to a higher bit rate..i guess that should solve it..i mean..if the source are from cds

THIS IS THE WORST THING TO DO!!! RE-ENCODING AT HIGHER BITRATE!!!

It doesn't give more quality!! In fact, it can only get even worst!!! You're adding more atfacts to the sound!!!

AHHHHHHHH *panic*

I use this program called MP3 Trim, which fixes the volume of the MP3 to make it equal, or at best as it can. It analizes it, and does not max it out, but simply fixes it...

It can cut time from beggining, for quite times, and even at the end...

I like it a lot... It is helpful for any low volume songs.

i just downloaded audiostocker...and was wondering..does anyone use that with eqs or without? if with eqs...what are the best settings?

another thing...i have soundblaster live value..and what would be the best setting for the bass and trebel 50% still sounds a little bit too high..if..say i wanna get true line out quality like how you would get from..say a discman? do i set it to zero on both settings? or should trebel be slightly higher than bass?

I like direct connect when I'm feeling like actually applying myself. It has really good selection for files, but you have to mess with jumping from server to server and you can't download from more than one person at a time so the download speeds are slower.

1. When the MP3 is created you are stuck with that bitrate and the data that it saves (and looses) - if you convert it to a higher bitrate you gain nothing - the computer does not just recreat that lost data - no advantage - same for WAV conversion - just use the MP3's at whatever bitrate you have them, or re-rip directly from the audio cd.

2. 128bit is the MP3 spec for CD quality - for whatever that is worth.

3. You can also check out kazaa lite (www.kazaalite.com) it is a spyware free version of kazaa as well.
