Guest Anonymous
Hello. I purchased a Sharp MT831 a couple of days ago from ebay. Got it here in okay condition (worst packaging job I had ever seen though, it was in an oldale paso taco box with no bubblewrap/peanutes/NOTHING just loose. I was suprised it still survived) I made a mix of Q and Not U and was listening away for the first day or two and it started having troubles reading my discs. I kept using this Sony MD lens cleaning disc but it didn't seem to help and I started getting worried last night. This morning it refused to read a single disc! I got really annoyed. I read alot and tried cleaning the lens with a little isopropyl acohal to no avail. I then ripped a little time sized ball of cotton of a larger and ball and with a pair of tweazers very carefully cleaned out the inside of the MD unit. Not expecting much, I closed it. WHALAA! It reads the toc almost instantly agian, recored fine, no errors, no pauses, nothing wrong! This may not fix it for everyone but for me dusting off the rest of the unit did the trick. Hope this helps someone!
Guest Anonymous
Well, that fixed it for the time being but I found out that it was because I must have nudged the laser unit. Here is the real problem/fix for me. When you open it without stoping in completely first the laser dosn't scroll back properly. So, if you open up the unit and carefully using a pair of tweazers, push the laser unit left lightly till it is at the very beggining, then I nudged it so you can hear a low click. It seems to help re-align itself of the track properly and experimenting (opening whithout pressing stop) and then resetting it on the track. The TOC can'treadA and Write errors have disappeared agian. This seems to be an easy to do working solution. I imagine that overtime the unit is able to become slightly offset on the track so the laser dosn't align properaly and setting its position back, fixed the problem. Hope this helps other people out there,
roflol
Wubba! I realize your fix was written over 2 years ago, before I even knew MDs existed, but thank you for posting it and thank you MD forum for keeping the info here just for me! My daughter came home disgruntled because her NH600D (Christmas present) had suddenly started only displaying "No disc" when she'd put in any disc. I came here and was dismayed that most posts relating to this error message indicated it was likely a dead laser block issue and we were SOL. I was willing to open it up since it wasn't functioning anyway, but just before I was about to get the tools out I came upon this post and raided the medicine cabinet instead for the tweezers to try the MD version of "jiggling the handle" - and it worked! Thanks, from a grateful Mom. Edited May 7, 2005 by roflol
