Guest Anonymous
Hey Jimmo, sorry but I think it's normal when batteries get fucked up with time and 5min is nothing. Or you can send a letter to Sony that you wanna back the money for that 5 minutes you have to spend waiting . But seriously- you should always recharge the battery only if it is absolutely empty - not when it is still powerful. That's like with mobiles. Good luck
Sugo
I believe for N10 and E10 it's a different story since they use Li-ion battery. You want to keep it full all the time. Someone recommended charging it when it drops to two bars.
Leland
Sugo is right. You should top it up whenever it is convenient. There is a theoretical limit to the number of deep cycles the battery will handle, but if you top it up, it does not count as a cycle. Guest Anonymous
I become very interested in this topic since I lost my external battery case. Before I lost my battery case, I only charge my N10 only until it's completely drained. Cos I think the battery will be more durable. Why I believe so? Because my friend's MD player uses the old Ni-MH gum stick battery, he recharged it nearly every single night. Then, after 1 year of usage, his MD player can only play up to about 3-4hrs even it's full charged. Isn't Ni-MN battery claimed not to suffer from 'memory effect’? By this story, I think it would be the same case to Li-ion batteries. I only recharge Li-ion batteries (not only of my MD, but of my cell phone too) until the juice is used up. Can anyone post some scientific facts concerning rechargeable batteries or why 'memory effect'? Thx a lot
Leland
From http://www.idxtek.com/faq.htm - NiMH use: charge fully the same day of use, or the day before (has very high self discharge). NiMH discharge: discharge every 30 uses. - NiMH short-term storage: re-charge fully a day or two after use, and store charged. - NiMH long-term storage: charge fully every 1-2 months of non-use. - Lithium Ion use: top off or charge fully within 3-4 weeks of use (has very low self discharge). - Lithium Ion discharge: no discharge ever required, okay to top off. - Lithium Ion short term storage: store charged. - Lithium Ion long term storage: charge to 20-40% capacity every 3 months of non-use. Key differences include need for regular full discharge of NiMH vs. not needed for Li Ion.
Guest Anonymous
me noob what does "Discharge" mean leland
Leland
It means run the battery all the way down before charging it up again. Also referred to as "deep cycle" as opposed to partial cycle.
