Guest Anonymous
I bought a used MZ-E40 and will play a Pre-recorded MD's, "Ben Folds Five" but it won't play recorded MD's from my computer. I recorded using Open MG Jukebox at LP2 and LP4 speeds. I just bought some used recorded MD's from eBay and those will play on the MZ-E40 but I don't know what those MD's were recorded with. Any ideas? Claudio Ortiz
Devilbunny
The E40 won't do LP2 or LP4. Record in SP and they'll play just fine on it. Of course, it does make NetMD a lot less useful, because you're getting LP2 quality even if you record in SP over NetMD. If you record direct from CD on the optical input in SP, you'll get high-quality discs that will play properly in the E40.

NetMD transfer, being digital, ought to be lossless. So how would optical recording from a CD-player be any better than burning to SP from PCM-WAV's? Daijoubu
There's no SP for NetMD All you get is a ATRAC3 LP2 signal transcoded in ATRAC SP
Guest Anonymous
I used OpenMG jukebox to record in SP mode. You need to click on MD Properties and chose SP recording, rather that LP2/LP4 mode. It worked fine. Thanks, Claudio Ortiz
Devilbunny
It will record in SP mode. Unfortunately, the source file for NetMD from SP is not the CD itself, but the ATRAC3 LP2-quality file on your hard drive. So you can record in SP, but it will only be LP2 quality, because that's the quality of the source. If you record straight from a CD player in SP, and compare that to a NetMD recording, you'll be able to tell the difference.
Guest Anonymous
Come again? NetMD transfer, being digital, ought to be lossless. eh its 'lossless' in terms of data transfer, not accounting for audio compression... ATRAC is lossy compression... ATRAC3 (LP) via NetMD is more lossy than ATRAC SP via optical due to higher compression... data transfer wise both are just as good... side note: but in r/l nothing is truly lossy, a single speck of dust on your cd means you lose a few bits of audio =)
