OK so NetMD is basically duff!

i have consigned myself to obtaining the Midiman CO2 which alows me to take the DIGITAL coax RCA S/PDIF input and output of my soundcard and plug them into this box to provide me with an OPTICAL S/PDIF input and output pathways to my PC.

Basically all of the recordings from CD's (i don't have a hi-fi [student accomodation is small] i use an amp and speakers plugged into my pc) and wav files that i will make will be made optically. And recording lectures will be transferred from Digital source (*minidisc converted*) ---analog---> soundcard (*ADC converted)---> digital wav file.

this digital -> analog -> digital seem POINTLESSLY inefficient and just plain unnecessary......... My question is/are:

1. is there a MD with optical output as well as input (even if it hasn't got netMD) ?

2. is it really ABSOLUTELY impossible to transfer music digitally from MD ---(*usb*)---> PC , using any (even non sony) unit, or do you think that it will be arranged (cracked) that this will be possible.
