Guest Anonymous Posted November 12, 2003 Report Share Posted November 12, 2003 i have a mz-n710 version 1.500 ans i want to increase the output level! if you have a idea?!After looking at the schematic for the MZ-N710 (actually, it was the MZ-NF810, but the circuitry is the same) from the service manual, it looks like you can increase the output to 5mW by making a few modifications*: 1. Bypass resistors R106 and R206 (22 Ohm) with a small piece of wire. This alone may be sufficient for SOME improvement, although it may not be a good idea to do this unless you follow step 2 as well it's possible that if you don't, you could get some distortion). 2. Replace capacitors C111 and 211 (which by default are 100uF/6.3v) with 220uF/2.5v. 3. Replace resistors R162, R262 (2.2K by default), R161 and R261 (10K by default) to 4.7K. 4. Replace capacitors C263 and C163 (2.2uF by default) to 1uF. In order to do all this, you'll need to find a source for the parts (the correct physical size and value - shouldn't be too much of a problem) and a really steady hand when it comes to soldering. One mistake and you could destroy the player. By doing this, you're obviously voiding the warranty. If you intend on doing this, I strongly recommend using the service manual (http://www.minidisc.org/manuals/sony/service/sony_MZ-NF810_service_manual.pdf) as a guide (the MZ-NF810, as mentioned has the same PCB as the MZ-N710). I have a question regarding line output increases, wouldn't it be easier to just get a portable amp...I use my MD for DJing sometimes. Really the question is, do you lose noticable quality by placing an amp outside the unit, as compared to rigging the unit inside and not using an amp. KJ_Palmer Posted December 3, 2003 Report Share Posted December 3, 2003 I think an amp would the the way to go with the N710, if you don't mind a bit of extra bulk. I use a Boosteroo from Sound Professionals with my Sony PCDP and I think it's actually very good. OK, I know its not the best amp in the world, but its cheap ($24 + shipping), it's very clear, it's slim, there's no hiss, and can go very loud ( much louder I'd say than my Sharp 10mW x2 MDs). And considering my D-EJ2000 only has 0.5mW x 2, the N710 should go ballistic! Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
BerkY Posted December 4, 2003 Report Share Posted December 4, 2003 Well headphone amps are ok but why use them?!?!? I mean they are bulky and they cost money! For a decent headphone amp you would have to spend a decent amount and i'd rather spend that money on the miniisc and get a better model with a better output. And i am totally against modifying the minidisc unless you are an electronics engineer. you might lose the unit completely.
