Guest Anonymous
Hi just installed Sonic Stage on a friends PC (along with Simpleburner) and neither program can recognise the cd drive (of which there are 2 present- one cdrw and a dvd unit) Whats going on? In SS it tells me that "the device is not connected" Any thoughts? Cheers SteveN
mAjEsTiC
does Nero or Windows also recognise them??? because if a burning program like Nero doesn't you need to update either the program itself and/or the ATAPI drivers...this is rare though but not entirely sure of the soln myself...sorry 4 the l8 reply... Guest Anonymous
Thanks for the reply! The drives work in windows just fine, and are recognised, not installed Nero (I dont think) but EasyCD wrote perfectly. Ive uninstalled each of the programs and Ill eventually reinstall them, its not my PC so I will be a few days b4 that can happen. All very strange. Cheers Stevv
mAjEsTiC
this is strange...usually SonicStage, OpenMG and SimpleBurner should auto recognise the drives...try and check out the options (and see if the drop down menu shows up with the correct drive letters) to see if it recognises it...but if EasyCD can recognise it should be fine...might just be a software problem during install... Guest Anonymous
You're probably having ASPI layer issues. Search the net for ForceASPI to get the Adaptec ASPI layer version 1.7. Don't get version 1.8, as its a version that can cause trouble.

Guest Anonymous
The machine in question has had both programs running perfectly in the recent past, I uninstalled MOST things from the PC to sell on when my friend expressed an interest. I installed the programs and this is where we are. This "ASPI layer issues" whats that all about, will things have changed without my knowledge because this machine definately ran these programs perfectly less than a month ago. Thanks for the replies though people. Syeeev
mAjEsTiC
an update to the ASPI layer usually allows programs to "see" or recognise your DVD/CD drives...i'm not too sure of the technical details on how this does this though...but it usually works...
