Guest Anonymous
just the other day i purchased an iPod. I loved everything about it, the ease of managing/importing/exporting your mp3/playlists, the non restrictive software (i was using ephpod) the id3 tag support and option to browse and play songs with playlists. BUT, after trying to play a continuous mix cd, the iPod produced gaps of a second in duration as it proceeded to the next track. This was a huge issue for me, as i cannot stand listening to dj mixes etc with gaps in the playback. I know of the current software restrictions on the sony players, but im hopeful they will be circumvented soon. My question is do the net MD players play seamlessly through tracks with no discernable gaps in the audio? Do the sony cd based MP3 players with ATRAC3 support gapless playback? mAjEsTiC
yep MD units play seamlessly throught tracks with hardly any or no discernable gaps in the audio (prvided that the audio source itself does not leave a gap inbetween songs) because from all the mixes that i've stored on my MD it plays throught each track seamlessly... clonmult
Ditto with what mAjEsTiC said - MD plays continuously. The Mansun album Attack of the Grey Lantern plays straight through on the original CD, and the MD copy plays exactly the same.
silkthinker
and still, 7 years after this post, gapless is the reason why I cannot let go of my MD. mp3 media has never produced a satisfactory gapless player. not even sony.
KJ_Palmer
Don't Ipods (at least the later ones) now have the option to pay gaplessly, via Itunes? One of the few current players to do so, I believe, now that Sony has abandoned ATRAC. Not that that would make me buy one.

I get around the gapless issue on MP3 players by ripping "medleys" (i.e., stuff on Side 2 of Beatles Abbey Road) as one track).
