Guest Anonymous
I have a HIFI seperate minidisc player type MDS-JB940 this comes with ATRAC DSP type-R/ATRAC3. I am thinking of getting another player of type MDSJE480B/S. According to the website at www.sony.co.uk this has ATRAC type S. Are these two formats compatible. In other words will a minidisc recorded in long play on one machine play in the other. Does ATRAC S support LP4.
KJ_Palmer
Yes, Types S and R are completely compatible with each other. The only thing extra Type S DSP does is to enhance MDLP playback slightly.
mAjEsTiC
as KJ_Palmer said...ATRAC Type R is for SP recordings...ATRAC Type S still utilises ATRAC Type R during SP recordings but also it enhances LP playback slightly (this is ATRAC Type S a combination of enhancements in recording and LP playback not just for recording as ATRAC Type R was designed for)
