Sony MDS-JA30ES opinions?

Hi. I'm new to MD and do not yet have one. I could probably buy a Sony MDS-JA30ES and Sony MZ-R91 secondhand combo for a reasonable price.

My use would be recording CD's and perhaps every now and then a radio program using the analog-in's.

I'm tempted because in general ES series Sony audio equipment are pretty good. However, this is an older model and used. What would I gain and miss buying the combo compared to buying a new Sony portable like 707 or a similar new product?

Is there a significant difference in audio quality between these, either analog or digital input? I guess the 30ES does not have the newer LP modes either but the info is hard to find.

Anything else to consider?

well the ES in general is indeed very good as u said...the 30ES is anold unit and does not utilise MDLP recording/playback nor does it use the ATRAC Type R DSP either...the 707 recorder uses the Type R ATRAC DSP for SP recordings which is pretty good since it boosts the processing capabilities of normal ATRAC...so you get better recordings in a way...other than that i don't think that the 30ES would lose out on much in the Digital recording part....

otherwise if u can streth the budget you could buy a normal deck that is out these days...or even a QS series deck...both of these should have Type R/S DSP and also MDLP capability...and some even have NetMD capabilities...soo all in all it's up to u in the end...
