hi folks,

i'm getting a car MD player, and i'm wondering what's the simplest method to record my own discs, from CD or MP3.

i have a sony cd player with optical out if that's any help.

i see amazon have portable recorders for ~$100, this sounds like the simplest? although the thing is i can't see myself needing the portable unit when i have the player in the car...

cheers

tim

simplest method to record to the MD if you have a whole stack of mp3's on your computer s of course using mp3's and playing them back through winamp or something similar and recording straight off it on2 md...otherwise if you want quality or have a lot of music already on cd's then record through optic out to the MD unit...

hi majestic,

thanks for the reply, i'll go with the optical out option i think because i am a fan of quality and i don't mind if it takes longer.

would it be simplest for me to buy a low-end portable MD player/recorder to record the discs? i wouldn't really have use for the portable unit except for recording, since the car unit would be where i would play the discs.

thanks

tim

Yes, all recorders are more or less equal for digital recording. That is, units made in the last couple of years or so. Anything pre-2000 will have a slightly inferior version of ATRAC.

An ATRAC Type R or S equipped deck would be even better, something like he Sony MDS-JE480., which is quite cheap

well so long as a unit utilises the Type R/S dsp i think that the recording is going to be better than one that doesn't...but since the new portables utilises Type S i don't see how it make that much of a difference over the same dsp that's used on a deck...but then again i do admit that u do get better recordings from a deck than on a portable unit due to the higher quality electronics involved but i mean if you're not using it for a profession then i'd say that the portables should suffice...
