Guest Anonymous
I was reading the manual of MZN910 and came across the Sonic Stage software which was included for the NetMD functions. It seems to me that when you are recording from your CDs through a computer using Sonic Stage and Atrac3, you can only get up to 132kbits. Does that mean the sound quality is less than if you record straight from a CD player using an optical cable? Is there anyway you can record from the CD via a computer (utilising the fast transfer of data) and still get the highest quality out? And one more thing, there is also this 'Check Out' business. Is there anyway you could by pass that by deleting any particular files so you can check out more than three times? Thanks for the forum's infinite knowledge!!! tmeg
You import the songs again (I think from a different folder), to get more than 3 checkouts. If you do not like the track-protection, then the "simple burner" method will be your friend (seach the forum). Via NetMD currently only LP2 and LP4 quality is possible. For SP NetMD transfer a upsampling from the stored LP2/4 format files is used, thus no increase in quality is achieved. For maximum quality you would need to record opticaly from a CD player or from the PC in "real time". I think and hope "MDing" still makes fun If you experience software stability problems, check if you have downloaded all available updates from Sony. mAjEsTiC
just to recap wot tmeg said above... It seems to me that when you are recording from your CDs through a computer using Sonic Stage and Atrac3, you can only get up to 132kbits. Does that mean the sound quality is less than if you record straight from a CD player using an optical cable? Is there anyway you can record from the CD via a computer (utilising the fast transfer of data) and still get the highest quality out?well depends on how you record using optic...whether it's SP, LP2 or LP4 mode...SP ~ 292kbps, LP2 ~ 132kbps, LP4 ~ 66kbps...most ppl can't tell the difference between LP2 and SP modes so if you want to transfer via SonicStage, use LP2 mode... And one more thing, there is also this 'Check Out' business. Is there anyway you could by pass that by deleting any particular files so you can check out more than three times? apparently there is...check this thread for more info... also you can find the "simpleburner + nero" method that tmeg is talking about above here at this thread... Guest Anonymous
Thanks for the replies guys! Really appreciate it! Could anyone tell the difference between LP2 and SP? You said in your reply Majestic that you can't, but can anyone else can? I mean, around 300kps compared to 132kps seems like alot of difference.... mAjEsTiC
sorry lemme rephrase what i said earlier...i can tell the difference between LP2 and SP, but that's with high quality headphones and speaker setup...but like i said "most" people can't tell the difference...the thing is in he way the data is compress...ATRAC is kind of different to mp3 when it's recorded at SP and LP2...i.e. if u get a 320kbps mp3 and a 128kbps mp3 u can tell the difference...but with ATRAC/ATRAC3 (SP/LP2) it's harder...but the difference is there...i usually record no less than LP2 as that is enough for my needs commuting to and from uni every day...SP i use for backing up my albums (either that or i rip to wavs and shove em on my iPod)...
