Guest Anonymous
My student just gave me a Sony MD player (MZ-R909). It has only been used twice. I have been doing some recording via an optical cable but when I play it back the sound is so low. All the volume controls are turned up as far as possible. I don't have the instruction booklet so am not sure if I am doing it correctly. I can hardly hear it over the sound of a moving train, and I am not going deaf yet. Does anyone have any ideas? Is it normal to be so low? My friend thinks they manufacture them that way to protect our delicate ears. Would recording using LP4 make any difference? Cheers
mAjEsTiC
did u check that the volume from the source as also up full??? because this would make a big difference...it's not normal for the volume to be so low unless it is from the actual source that you recorded from...and no don't try and record music in LP4...mite save space but the quality leaves something to be desired... Guest Anonymous
Yes - the volume was up high from the source too (but it is just a crappy stereo so doesn't go too loud). What do you think about LP2. Is it OK or do you recommend SP only? Thanks!
KJ_Palmer
Turning the volume up on your stereo should not affect optical recording, which is usually at a fixed level (same as source), certainly on any 'crappy stereo'. It would affect analogue recording if via a headphone output though. Are you sure you're using an optical cable (sorry for asking)? You could try turning up the rec level on your R909. Here's the manual in pdf for your reference: http://www.minidisc.org/manuals/sony/sony_...r909_manual.pdf LP2 is OK, but the best is still SP recording. mAjEsTiC
sorry i was refering to turning up the volume to full on the computer since i have a seperate volume control for the digital out for some odd reason...but yes as KJ_Palmer said above try and stick to SP...and if you're using an optic cable and the recording is still very quiet i think that it's the source that you're recording from itself that is at fault...u can c thru the levels when sync recording how loud the track is...it should be past half way but less than full...
