MarkJ
:?: I am strongly considering a purchase of a Sharp MD but I have some questions. I plan to use this unit for recording concerts (bands that allow taping btw). I have a Philips CDR recorder with an optical input, a digital coaxial input and analog (RCA) input. Is there a MD with an optical output or all units with optical input bidirectional? Can I upload the MD music I recorded in digital format to the CDR without using the analog (headphone) output? It seems not worth the extra money for a 1 bit recorder if the only way out is the analog headphone jack. Thanks for the help. Please let me know ASAP since I want to record my first show on 12/4. mAjEsTiC
Is there a MD with an optical output or all units with optical input bidirectional? no u need a deck if you want to have an optical output because none of the new portables have this output jack, only decks do... Can I upload the MD music I recorded in digital format to the CDR without using the analog (headphone) output? It seems not worth the extra money for a 1 bit recorder if the only way out is the analog headphone jack. no u can't...unless you also get a deck...as i mentioned before, since there is no optical output on the portable recorder so you can't record your recordings to the PC via digital link... Guest Anonymous
I have a MZ-N707 and want to do the same as MarkJ (though in my case it is oral history recordings). I want to retain digital files for obvious reasons but find that the only way is to output them is via the headphone output (which is both an analogue route and an impedance mismatch with my PC Line-In socket). However this MD has an optical digital I/O. However when I tried to download a recorded file using OpneMG it wouldn't work. Is there any other software that would allow this or does the answer to MarkJ's query also apply to me?
mAjEsTiC
unfortunately the N707 does NOT have optic output either only decks do (unless there is a very new model that does and i'm not aware of it) but if you were talking about the NetMD USB interface then NetMD feature was not designed for uploading and as such that is why you cannot upload your recordings from your MD -> PC (NetMD transfer only go one way and that is from PC -> MD and not the other way around)...to get your recordings up on your computer you need to use a program called winNMD (info can be found here) which basically uses analogue cables and in realtime...that's basically the only way i know of to u/l ur recordings back onto your PC....
