mAjEsTiC
I wanna buy new Sharp 420h : is good to use for live recording??yes...all sharp units are very good for use in live recording environments... Has problem with distorsion with small microphones? i would think not...you can control the levels on the unit to prevent this from happening and with smaller mics (Sony ones anyway) i haven't really encountered much distortions when recording from them provided that i'm not standing too close to the source i'm recording from (if the source is very loud like a loud speaker i mean)... I want substitute my bad Sony 707 with this problem and so I want sure to buy a good item.it's cool...i know what you mean...the DR420 is a good unit IMO... Someone want to sell me Sharp md-dr 470hs (is better than new 420h??)well i don't think there is really that much of a difference between the two models besides the DR470 having a backlit LCD remote that you can view while recording without taking your recorder out to check on things, since the DR420 doesn't have an LCD on its remote...but otherwise the two units are almost the same with a few minor differences between the two like they both feature the 1-bit mobile amp as well as the dr420 having NetMD capability where the dr470 does not...that's bout it i would think... Guest Anonymous
There is one important difference that you missed, Majestic. The DR-420 does not have the trace-back recording function, which has gathered some praise from DR7-users. "Trace-back recording... stores 5, 10 or 30 (user selectable) seconds of audio in memory while in REC-PAUSE state; when the user presses REC, recording actually begins 5, 10 or 30 seconds prior to the button press." Apart from that, I'm sure it's a decent unit, and I am still considering between the DR420 and DR7 (especially since I can't seem to be able to find a DR7 silver from any European store). Does anyone here have any hands-on experiences with the IM-DR420? Oh and one quite unrelated question: how are the prices of the DR7/DR420 expected to change in the near future? I was planning to buy either of those units for Christmas, but If there are reasons to anticipate a surge in the prices, say, right after the yule-tide, I guess I could wait that long. Is Sharp releasing any new models in the early 2004?
mAjEsTiC
i'd say they might drop down for the Christmas rush since they want to sell as much stock as possible and are willing to cut prices down a bit...and from what i've heard i don't think that Sharp will be releasing anything new early 2004...
