ceadude
Hello All! Not new to minidisc, but new to the community. What a relief to find you guys. I have a tech question concerning the Sony MZ-F610. I am afraid the ad/da converter in the box is shot. There is a swish in the sound (similar to what happens when the same problem afflicts a sound card). Does anyone know if its possible to replace this yourself? There is also a data transfer problem in the area of track info. The player plays the disc, but doesn't show the track info that was there before the problem began. Thanks for your input. I really dig this site!
Bazirker
Have you tried making a realtime recording with the unit? The problem might actually have to do with the NetMD transfer, not your unit's converter. When you do a NetMD transfer, your computer converts the audio to ATRAC3, so that could be where the problem is if you're having troubles with both sound quality and file titles. If it is the chip, I doubt it's possible to switch the chips out yourself unless you have mad skillz with a soldering iron. I'm not positive about this, but I think the ATRAC Type-S chip has stuff like the D/A converter built directly into it, meaning if you wanted to replace the converter chip you'd have to replace the entire ATRAC chip. I have absolutly no idea how to aquire a new chip either, they're not something you can pick up at the local Radio Shack... Oh, and welcome to MD.org, we're glad to have you! mAjEsTiC
i don't think it's easy to unsolder the D/A chip...coz i think it's usually mounted nearly directly on the board and the solder is hard to heat up enough (in that it won't fry teh chipset and/or damage teh other components) to make it easy to take off and replace teh chipset....if it is bust just go to a Sony repair center and get them to change the internals for you...but yeh try recording in real-time first as Bazirker said...
