Jim Lundy
Sony mz-n510ck has a jack discribed as "LINE IN (OPTICAL) jack" What is 'OPTICAL' about it ?? It looks like any other to me. What is special about it ?? JL
mAjEsTiC
optical is a special in that it allows transfer of data digitally without any loss of transmission due to interference from emf's or discrepencies in the wire...basically if you use an optic cable to transfer from say a CD -> MD then it will more or less be an exact copy of that CD because nothing is lost due to the conversion of analogue to digital and back again... Guest Anonymous
Thanks Majestic, I was thinking 'inside the box', optics in the sense of the subject has nothing to do with lenses, light, lightwaves, fiber optic, etc. JL
